Dragon Swarm Placement meets Lair Building, with positive interaction, minimal downtime, and maximum Dragon time.

8 Dragons is a highly interactive game. You are often involved in other players' turns, and good things come from it. The interaction is positive, the downtime minimal. Chaining your Dragon game pieces together into a Swarm is as satisfying as it sounds. And while the game flows quickly, the tile laying part adds a delightful puzzle challenge as you work to build the most valuable Lair and win the game.

Tylor and Ilya walk you through the rules:

Every turn has two phases. First, you fly your Dragon Swarm across the kingdoms and activate the Location Effects you land on, for you and every Wyrmling in your Swarm, no matter which player color.

Then, if you have collected tiles, it is time to expand your Lair. Place them cleverly to fulfill your missions and collect as much Gold as possible.

And as befits a true Dragon: whoever hoards the most Gold wins 🥇

Meet Aureus, a very special Golden Wyrmling. Like the others, leaping from Dragon Rock and joining passing Swarms. But wherever Aureus lands, the effect is always activated for the active Dragon. That's you, when it's your turn. Whether flying in your Swarm or in one you push, move Aureus and the golden Wyrmling is yours.

And there's a troll. There is always a troll. This one has stolen Gold from the villagers and carries it in a big sack with a hole in it. Not the smartest thief. You swoop in and collect what you find. But be careful: when spotted, the Troll takes a grumpy step in your direction.

Ready for even more brain-crunchy Lair building? Royal Challenges are an optional Advanced Mode that adds 4 (out of 10) extra goals to the game, two from Dextra demanding size and grandeur, two from Sinistra honouring modesty.

And the kingdoms themselves? Highly modular. Location tiles and Folk meeples can be placed differently every game, changing how the world unfolds around you. The Mini Expansion Set Wondrous Places brings completely new locations into the mix, making the kingdoms as symmetric or asymmetric as you please. No two games feel the same.
