A Road that Knows Your Name is a prompt-based storytelling game. Players embody a group of people aboard a vessel, and take turns telling the story of their journey. To represent the vessel, players build a model using LEGO® bricks (or whatever you have to build with) that changes over the course of the game.
Inpsired by games like Avery Alder's The Quiet Year, A Road that Knows Your Name prompts players to take turns discovering new sights along the journey, clashing with danger on the road, and grappling with the changing terrain. Between encounters, projects are attempted, and gatherings are held amongst the crew. The vessel, crew, and cargo is constantly affected by the events of the story, which the players reflect by altering the LEGO® vessel at the table.
A Road that Knows Your Name is a one-shot tabletop roleplaying game with no GM. It is designed to be played in a single sitting. The game concludes when you run out of cards, or whenever you feel like the story is over.
Included with physical rewards is a deck of cards with the rules and prompts on them. The prompts themselves are abstract images, illustrated by Nate Taylor, which players use, along with a die roll, to give direction to the next story beat. After interpreting their prompt, players can start projects or hold meetings amongst the crew.
Not included with the cards, but recommended for the best experience: writing implements, a few sheets of paper, a handful of six-sided dice, and something to build with.
No LEGO® products are included.
Forrest Storrs is a writer and game designer with two successful kickstarters and a handful of publications to their name. When not making games or comics with their friends, Forrest is probably baking, or saying hello to other people's dogs.
Nate Taylor is a writer an illustrator living in Pittsburgh with one successful kickstarter under his belt. His favorite things to draw are monsters, magic, machines, or any combination thereof. His least favorite thing to draw is bicycles, but he's working on it.
The game is done, and the cards and box art are laid out. All that's left is to send it to the printer. We've factored in what is hopefully a conservative estimate for shipping costs. Unfortunately, due to past experience, international shipping remains expensive.
We've both run successful Kickstarters before without any major hiccups. Our previous projects have been comics. This is our first game. That said, we have already selected a printer, which we've worked with before and have had very good experience with. If anything changes, or anything unexpected comes up, we will keep backers in the loop immediately.
