Adventure Location Cards allow you to create locations and adventures for any fantasy, modern, or science-fiction roleplaying game. Each Location Card gives players a map while the Game Master side shows keyed details, useful prompts, and adventure hooks.

The original Adventure Location Cards campaign was backed by 720 RPG fans. We raised $31,106 and successfully sent the products to backers. After almost a decade of being out of print, we are making these cards available again

Every reward includes the listed digital PDF of the deck and access to order the corresponding printed decks separately through DriveThruCards at current base print cost. Location decks currently cost $7.15 each to print; Background decks currently cost $7.02 each. Optional clear plastic deck boxes cost approximately $1 each and can be selected during DriveThruCards checkout. Printing, boxes, shipping, tax, and any customs charges are paid separately to DriveThruCards. Dicehaven receives no markup when a backer places their print-at-cost order.

Three Location decks help answer Where are they? and What is going on? The two Instant Background decks help answer Who is here? and Why do they matter?

Play a quick game of cards to give player characters a rich backstory which drives adventures, helps players become invested in their characters, and provides a set of a dozen or so non-player characters.

To develop your character’s backstory, hand out one or more cards from each of the four categories: Friend, Family, Foe, and Flame (a need or desire). Players pick the ones they like best and are welcome to trade unused cards. Pass around Name cards to help players think of names for their NPCs. Players hand in their cards, and the GM can stack them next to a note with their name, and boom: instant backstory!

Another technique is to use these cards in-game to develop backstories for non-player characters that you encounter during the game. With just this one deck of cards, you have dozens of adventure hooks to propel your games!

The Fantasy & Horror Instant Background Cards 54-card deck supports High Fantasy, Gritty Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and Eldritch Horror play.

The Modern & Sci-Fi Instant Background Cards 54-card deck supports Sci-Fi, Apocalyptic, Supers, and Western play.

These Background decks are optional companion decks to the Adventure Location Cards.

Why back now instead of waiting for retail?

• Introductory pricing: The combined pledge and print costs is less expensive than the decks will cost after they hit retail (we are planned on charging $16.95 per deck for those buying after the Kickstarter ends).
• First access: Backers will receive access to these products before retail sales open some months later.
• A proven product: We finished the decks 10 years ago and delivered them to backers. This is just a reprint.
• Help us return to print: Your pledge will enable us get the products back into print.

How print-at-cost fulfillment works

1. Choose a Kickstarter reward. Choose your pledge level. Your reward will include the digital PDFs for the products you select along with codes to print those cards at cost.
2. Complete the Kickstarter survey. After the Kickstarter ends, we will send you a survey. Just fill it out to confirm which decks you want.
3. Receive your digital files and fulfillment links via email. You'll get the PDFs and links to order the products at-cost. We plan to deliver these to you in November 2026.
4. Order your physical decks from DriveThruCards. Just pay the print cost, shipping, tax, and any customs charges. You can optionally add $1.00 plastic deck boxes.
5. DriveThruCards will print and ship your order. Dicehaven will not collect a Kickstarter shipping charge or ship the card decks.

Current print costs from DriveThruCards.com are $7.15 for each 55-card Location deck and $7.02 for each 54-card Background deck. DriveThruCards will manage manufacturing the cards and will charge the shipping and tax (these amounts can change).

Dicehaven will provide support for any issues or questions you have in getting your cards for one year after the links are delivered.

Why kickstart a previously finished product?

The creative work is complete, but getting these products back into print still requires some work.  This campaign will help us to:

• Update the branding of the cards with our new company name: Dicehaven.
• Prepare the five decks for current DriveThruCards specifications.
• Order and inspect the physical proofs.
• Prepare digital rewards and private print-at-cost fulfillment links.
• Support backers through the delivery process.

We set the funding goal at only $500 because this is a return-to-print project, not new product line that has to be built from scratch. There are no stretch goals. The goal is to deliver the five finished decks reliably and without distraction.
