Game story
In this epic battle for the Aztec Empire, go on the war path and be the first commander to safely return all your warriors and collect the mutual treasure!
You will guide your warriors down the stone-covered path and race around enemy territory, but watch your step as the road is full of traps and challenges. Your warriors will capture and sacrifice other players, battle it out in either one-on-one or all-against-all challenges where you get to test your skills and luck against other commanders.
By winning battles your war chest grows and you can use these treasures to survive the long and perilous road. Your skill as a commander and how you direct your warriors will help you along the way but the ancient gods will not let mere mortals decide the future of the empire, oh no! They have the power to either help you or put obstacles in your way by either guiding your hand in the “temple of the gods” or through surprise cards.
Before warriors are moved each commander must put their faith in the ancient goods by testing their luck in the “temple of the gods” but remember, gods are cunning and deceitful and even bad luck might just be part of their grand plan. You might lose the battle but not necessarily the war! Along the way you will acquire valuable knowledge but be aware, everything you learn you will be tested on!

A full deluxe game
Instead of making a base game and adding stretch goals we decided to add everything into the game and not offer stretch goals. The reason is we want to be able to manufacture the game and ship it within 3 months from when the campaign ends. Adding stretch goals will just complicate things for our backers and potentially delay manufacturing and shipment. We also want everybody to have the best version of the game at a reasonable price.
This is a prototype and some graphics will change before we start the campaign!
What kind of game is Azteca?
Azteca AD 1521 is a thematic tabletop board game combining dice and different card decks to control the gameplay; it's a hybrid category of a race, chase, party, family and educational game. The game mechanics are inspired by some of the world's most popular board and party games but with new twists and features.
It's the ultimate social get-together game and you get to have fun with your friends and family as you race around the board, but be aware the path is full of pitfalls and anything can happen...
Easy to play yet complex enough to offer a challenging game experience where the right decisions matter. Minimal learning curve, just jump in and get going and most importantly, have fun!
Azteca can be played with or without the card decks, it depends on your mood and how much action you want in the game.
When played without cards, or only with the surprise cards, you and the other players race to the finish line and the first player that gets all their markers to their homebase wins the game. Of course, it's not as simple as that;-) There are a lot of things that will happen on the way.
When played with all the card decks you add another dimension to the game. In addition to racing around the board you also collect knowledge cards and compete in different challenges with the other players while still attempting to be the first one crossing the finish line.

Azteca App for Smartphones and Tablets
Our initial version of the boxed game is only in English but we have created a special app for mobile phones/tablets where you can set different languages and use the app during game play instead of the English language card decks included in the box. In addition to the printed cards that come in the box there are 4 more Knowledge Card decks in the app + the same card deck you get in the box.
They cover various topics such as entertainment, science, history, sports and other topics. In addition we will constantly add more Knowledge Card decks to the app so whenever you play you always have new topics. Of course, you can also create your own decks:-). The reason we created the app was to be able to add new card decks without releasing physical cards in expansion packs. It also lets us be able to translate all the card decks in multiple languages. We also want players to be able to create, modify or add their own cards which will make the game more personal.
