My friend offered to make me a PBnJ sandwich. He called up to me and asked if I minded if he made me a sandwich. His tone was off, so I knew something was up. This friend is always doing something clever and fun so I entertained the offer. He came up the stairs asked me again if he could, he made sure I was certain I accepted the offer. After i affirmed to him again I would like the sandwich, on the banister of the stairs he proceeded to make me a sandwich. He meticulously made me an invisible PBnJ sandwich in an invisible kitchen on the banister as I stared at him in disbelief and confusion. In this imaginary kitchen he opened and shut the fridge, he grabbed the knife after opening the jar of jam, before putting the lid back on the jam and returning it to the fridge. I sat there and stared at this elaborate act of making a micro sandwich from a micro kitchen that was completely invisible and made up until he served it to me on an invisible plate. Breaking the tension of this act was far to much for me at this point compared to just accepting the sandwich. To let him down and not eat the sandwich in front of him after all his efforts of folding this illusionary act together was not something I was able to muster up. So I stared him in the eye, accepted the invisible PBnJ sandwich, and ate it in several micro bites. He looked back at me in the eye like an excited chef and we disbanded the moment. After we left that moment together, for the next day and a half I had to process what had happened. Until the conclusion slapped me in the face. My friend is a dirty rotten magician and he just used his illusionary magic on me to manipulate me into eating that sandwich. Thats when the first character of PvP Battleground was born, the Magician. A trickster, crafty son of a gun who would manipulate his way through the battle field to victory.
Working 12 hour shifts at an industrial construction job, I set out to make a card game. Before work, on my breaks at work, and after work I brain stormed and jotted ideas down. Our friend group is quite a collection of personalities, after mulling over my magician friend I realized that each one of our friends in the group fits an archetypical warrior quite nicely. I began modeling the 7 other characters after a friend. After I had the 8 characters I began giving them skills and abilities and the game started to snowball into what it is today.
This was an organic development. I have never imagined making a card game. It has been something that has snowballed further than I ever intended or imagined from the beginning. Now here I am raising money for a product launch for an LLC. The driver for making the game has been receiving the positive feedback from the friends and family I play tested it with.
