Our Story. Our Art.

Beast in Show was born during lockdown in 2020. Mandi and Erica are sisters and were living together when lockdown happened that March. With nothing but time and boredom on our hands, we started designing games! Our quick favorite was a magical pet show game that eventually became Beast in Show. As a math teacher, Mandi focused on the math and balance while Erica provided theme that we wove into every single card and mechanic in the game. 

Over the following six years we brought the game to conventions, Protospiel events, and game groups all over the country to refine and develop the game play. 

After we figured out the gameplay, we realized we were going to need a LOT of art. The deck alone had 108 unique cards! That is..... a lot! And we are a tiny little family company, without having close to enough resources to commission that much art. 

So Mandi started watching videos online and taking courses on art and graphic design. And started drawing. And drawing. And drawing.

It wasn't pretty at the beginning.....but she kept working.

She kept drawing and kept practicing. And it took three years.  Three years of constant drawing and practicing and refining and figuring out what the game should look like. And finally.....we got there. 

The final game includes art on 108 unique cards, 10 characters, and all the graphics, box design, playmats and more.  All of it is drawn one stroke at a time using programs like ArtRage and Photoshop. Three years of constant drawing. And we are so proud of how it turned out!

Why Back Now?

Since this is Four Harts Games' first game, its successful funding will give us the resources needed to create additional games and future expansions for Beast In Show. 

We also don't know if/when we'll make another print run or if the game will be available in retail (both of which will largely depend on the success of this Kickstarter), so this may be your only chance to get your hands on Beast In Show for the foreseeable future.
