The star of this campaign is a brand-new metal link token set, compatible with Brass: Birmingham and Brass: Lancashire.

These replace the cardboard canal and rail tokens with solid metal pieces, depicting the canal boats and trains, in a distinct colour for each player. They have real weight and snap your network into focus at a glance. The 2D artwork is finished and 3D design is started while this campaign funds the tooling and first production run that brings them to life.

BeyondTheBoard designs deluxe upgrade components for modern board games, produced together with professional manufacturing partners. What began during the pandemic as replacing a few worn-out pieces has grown into a small, well-loved range of premium upgrades.

Our approach is simple: keep the components that feel good but replace the cheap plastic and frail cardboard with materials worth keeping. Metal, stone, glass, and high-quality resin or acrylic where it's the right fit. Each material is chosen to suit the piece it replaces, so a great game feels better in your hands and lasts for years of play.

We keep this campaign deliberately focused so we can deliver on what we promise. Yet, there is more we'd like to do!

As we pass each funding milestone, we'll unlock and develop a new upgrade set as an optional add-on: premium income markers, score/VP tokens, and possibly more. Every goal we hit funds the design and tooling for the next piece. The community can help deciding which upgrade gets made next, and provide ideas for the design. Over time, the aim is a complete deluxification across the whole Brass experience.
