Blitzword est un jeu de lettres rapide où il faut se débarrasser de ses cartes, destiné à 2 joueurs ou plus. Les joueurs commencent chaque manche avec une main de 8 cartes « mot ». Une carte « mot » est placée face visible au centre de la table pour servir de mot actif, et une ou plusieurs cartes « règle » (comme « Même voyelle finale » ou « Mot plus long ») sont révélées à côté. En mode « Speed », il n’y a pas de tour de jeu. Dès qu’un joueur repère une correspondance valide avec l’un de ses mots actuels, il place la carte par-dessus le mot actif et annonce à voix haute en quoi elle satisfait à l’une des règles en vigueur (par exemple, en criant « même lettre initiale ! » ou « deux syllabes ! »). Un coup valide remplace le mot actif par la carte nouvellement jouée, et le jeu se poursuit à partir de là. Si un joueur ne parvient à établir aucune correspondance, il tape sur la table pour demander qu’une nouvelle carte « règle » soit révélée. Une fois la majorité atteinte, une nouvelle carte « règle » est révélée et peut être utilisée pour établir des correspondances. En mode Stratégie, les joueurs effectuent à tour de rôle deux actions de leur choix parmi les suivantes : jouer une carte « mot » qui respecte une règle en vigueur, remplacer l’une de leurs cartes « mot » par une nouvelle carte du paquet, échanger le mot actif contre un nouveau mot du paquet, ou remplacer l’une des deux cartes « règle » en vigueur. Les joueurs peuvent crier « Blitz ! » et jouer une carte-mot hors tour si celle-ci satisfait simultanément aux deux règles en vigueur. Le premier joueur à vider sa main met fin au tour. Tous les autres joueurs reçoivent des points de pénalité pour chaque carte restante en main. Après 3 tours, le joueur ayant le score total le plus bas remporte la partie. —description fournie par l’éditeur

How to Play

"Choose between 2 action-packed modes." STRATEGY: take 2 actions each turn, play a card, replace the active word or rule, or swap one of your words. Find a card that matches both rules, yell "Blitz!" and play it on someone else's turn. SPEED: no turns, play a card the second you find a match. One rule card starts face up. When you can't play any cards, vote to reveal the next rule by knocking on the table. Both sides show card spreads over purple and orange starbursts. Closing line: "The round ends when someone plays their last card. Everyone else keeps their leftover cards in their own pile. After 3 rounds, whoever has the fewest cards leftover wins."
