🖍️ Overview
Make your next work of art in this print-and-puzzle coloring game. Craft the story of each hand-illustrated picture with creative color choices using only 6 colors. Play solo or collaboratively with friends and family!
🛍️ What You Get
The main 10 game sheets will be delivered soon after the campaign ends in October. For those looking for even more coloring fun, we're working on 5 additional game sheets to be released by January. We'll work with you awesome backers to decide the theme for one of those, so keep an eye on the campaign to share your thoughts as we get them finished!
📖 How to Play
The rules are simple and accessible, attached to every game sheet.
At the start of each game, you'll choose 6 colors and color in two ★ spaces! Put your colors in a row, numbering them in your head from left-to-right as 1-6. These will be the only colors you'll have access to for the entire game, so we encourage you to pick the colors you're excited about using!
Each turn, color in a space with a number matching the color you choose, next to a space already colored.
But wait, there's a catch!
Once you've colored a space in, that color becomes the new 6, and all the other colors roll to the left, changing what colors and numbers match. This can lead to interesting and sometimes tough decisions about what colors go where, inspiring your interpretation of what a space represents and the story within the picture!
Once done, feel free to cut off the rules and share your picture! Add it to your fridge or wall, or somewhere special.
❓ Why Back
We've put a lot of love into Color Jam, designed by Gene Koo and Joe Kell with art by Erin Laue. All the art used for Color Jam is hand drawn by Erin Laue, and game mechanisms tested thoroughly for solo and group play by both the designers Gene Koo & Joe Kell as well as by us. NO AI was used at any step of our design process, and our games are 100% human made. Supporting this project means supporting real people and art, allowing us to create more thoughtful projects by real people.
We endeavor to create beautiful, memorable tabletop games with a focus on goals and outcomes that match the complexity and curiosity of real life, and we hope Color Jam accomplishes this for you.
🖨️ How to Print
If you don't have a printer at home that's okay! Your local library, print shop, or a friend with a printer can help print sheets for you. Game sheets can be laminated for repeat play, though we encourage coloring directly on paper using crayons, markers, or coloring pencils. It can be really exciting to share your final result with friends and family, so we don't want to see your great art erased!
Make sure you have crayons, markers, or coloring pencils so you can play!
🎒 Classroom & Therapeutic Play
During playtesting of Color Jam, we received feedback from both teachers and therapists on the benefits the game could or did have in class or therapy settings for both children and adults. Kyle Kuzemchak, a Grade 3 teacher, had the opportunity to share it with his class:
"My students loved using Color Jam as an indoor recess or enrichment activity. It provided them with the opportunity to color, but with the twist of strategic planning to get the colors they wanted together, or creative thinking to combine colors they might not have otherwise. I plan to continue using Color Jam in my classroom."
