Cooked Pirates: A High-Interaction Multiplayer Card Game

Statut actuel
— description du concepteur
Présentation de la campagne
The Story
One date night, we wanted to try something new: "Why not Create A Card Game?" my girlfriend asked. "Sounds fun!" I responded.
120 days later, here I am presenting the Prototype. But first, let me share how we ended up here...
Why a Multiplayer Pirate Game? 🏴☠️
We love playing social games (e.g., Uno or Exploding Kittens), but often felt frustrated how winning or losing early meant you're excluded for the rest of the game.
We also love playing TCG's. However, it always limited us to 2 players.
That's why we aimed for a middle ground between strategy and chaotism, playable by 2-4 players, where all players stay till the end.
Our shared love for Manga and Anime shaped our creative inspiration. And with the direction settled, we started brainstorming our own ridiculous pirates.
And well..., there was a learning curve... 😅 Here are some insights into character creation over time:
Drawing has never been my strongsuit, but I pushed past my fear of "this isn't good enough", and decided the style perfectly embodied the ridiculous humour we envisioned.
Creating a Story Through Community 👥👥
To breath life into the pirate world and its characters, we started a community-driven adventure. Here's one of the episodes (and in case you were wondering: "Yes, there was no limitation to our creativitiy!" 😂)
Everything worked as planned until episode 4...
Just before I could edit the episode, my iPad got stolen! This meant, we couldn't continue the story... 😢
Creating the Game 🃏
I took this opportunity to shift my entire focus to creating the card game. It was important to me that the gameplay is perfected before adding the visuals.
To achieve that, I've been relentlessly:
1. Prototyping
2. Testing with friends & family
3. Collecting feedback
4. Repeat.
After 3 months, I arrived at Prototype 8. And FINALLY I could say: "The Gameplay is really fun & closed to finnished!"
How Does the Game Work?
In Cooked Pirates, each player commans their own (although somewhat questionable) pirate crew.
The goal is to recruit the pirates needed to fulfill the set requirement for a specific crew. When you do, you're rewarded with Bounty. Collecting 3 Bounty means you've become the most notorious pirate and win the game.
Pirates have different strengths and abilities. They can be recruited from a central pile called the "Tavern". Every round, you will be able to recruit 1 pirate from this pile. Additionally, every turn, more pirates will be auctioned for gold to the highest bidding player.
But watch out! Blindly recruiting the pirates needed to complete your set can be treacherous. Each player has 2 slots to deploy pirates for activating effects and fighting. This means, if you're not strategic about it, another player will attack you, potentially stealing your valuable resources.
What to Expect from This Prototype?
The mission of this Kickstarter is to test and improve the latest Prototype with your feedback. Purchasing any Tier means you'll at least receive either a digital or physical copy.
About The Tiers
To make this Kickstarter as accessible as possible, the digital copy will be unlimited and priced at only 3€.
The second Tier is for a physical copy which will be sold for production price (no profit intended, but there's 1-2€ buffer for unexpected costs).
The last Tier includes both, and is for anyone who wants to financially support this project.
In return for this fair pricing, I hope backers will return the love by providing feedback to help refine the final version of Cooked Pirates. I promise to read and consider all feedback submitted!
