Cosmos: Empires is a 2-8 player tableau/engine building card game. The base game (which we are calling 2nd edition), has been a great success, and fit into our goal of it being a great "gateway game" (simple rules, deep strategy but with the distinctive "boardgame" flavour).

The biggest (and pretty much only) complaint we've had is that there are not enough different cards, and consequently when experienced boardgamers play a significant amount of times, it becomes a little stale.

This campaign is designed to fix this issue, with a massive expansion. We are more than doubling the cards in the pool, adding dual-type cards, a new mechanic, and creating 32 unique culture cards, which act as a-symmetrical abilities each player secretly gets at the start of the game (in a get-3 pick-2 fashion, so each player is left with 2).

With the expansion being very easy to separate from the base game when setting up, this should give you both the easy to pickup gateway experience and the more hard-core always unique strategy for you more advanced players out there!

If you have the first edition, getting the second edition is not needed! Feel free to just get the expansion. The 2nd edition has a few minor tweaks and re-wordings, and there are no game-breaking issues to fix in the first edition making it 100% compatible with the expansion.

For all our new backers, we recommend getting both together! The expansion is technically stand-alone, however we strongly recommend getting the base game as well.

Collectors Edition

This campaign's Collectors Edition will be including the original and the expansion combined. It will include:

2x Metal 4 sided dice.
6x Metal 8 sided dice. (For tracking variable numbers on cards.)
70x Mother of Pearl tokens. (Gold and silver.)
200x Sleeves for all your cards.
All cards converted to shiny foil versions.
It will come in a custom wooden box. Exact shape is still to be determined.

What if I already have the original Collectors Edition?

After looking at the numbers, doing an expansion-only collectors edition ended up costing almost the same as if we just did the whole complete set. There are also many new items in the new collectors which we feel improves on the product, so decided to just offer the complete set.

Your original collectors is still completely compatible, and can be added to this one without much redundancy. Or you can keep it as a show-piece, or choose which you like more to play with.
