Costume Chaos: The Dress-Up Card Game
Three pieces. One costume. And someone's about to steal your hat.
Costume Chaos is a print-and-play card game where you build costumes while your friends do their best to take them apart. You get the game as a digital download, print the cards at home, cut them out, and play.
How It Plays
Each costume has three pieces: a Head, a Body, and an Accessory. There are four themes: Pirate, Astronaut, Wizard, and Dinosaur.
On your turn, you draw two cards and play up to two. You can add pieces to your costumes, or use Action Cards to:
- Steal a piece from someone's unfinished costume
- Swap pieces with another player
- Block an attack with Not So Fast!
- Raid a random card from another player's hand
Finished costumes are safe. The first player to complete two costumes wins, then does the Costume Walk: strike a pose and strut across the room.
The game is designed for 2-5 players, with simple rules that younger players who read well should be able to pick up quickly. Exact play time and ages will be confirmed through playtesting.
What You Get
- 60 cards as a printable PDF (36 costume pieces and 24 action cards)
- A rulebook as a PDF
You'll need a printer, paper, and scissors. This is a digital product: nothing is shipped, and there's no box.
Why Print-and-Play?
I'm making this game on my own, and I want to keep the project small and honest. A digital game means no shipping costs, no warehouse, and no lost packages. Once the files are ready, you can be playing the same day.
Where the Project Stands
- The rules and the full 60-card list are written.
- I'm now making the first test cards and beginning playtesting. Playtesting may change some rules, such as how many cards you play per turn or how many costumes you need to win.
- The card designs are currently simple: text, color-coding, and basic shapes. Final layout is part of what this campaign will fund.
Funding Goal: $1,000
My goal is $1,000. It will go toward:
- Kickstarter and payment processing fees, which take roughly 8-10% of the total raised
- Test printing and playtest materials
- Finishing the card layout and artwork for the final PDF files
- The tools and time needed to finish and deliver the game
Kickstarter is all-or-nothing: if the goal isn't reached, nobody is charged and the project doesn't go ahead.
Rewards
- $1: Thank You. Campaign updates and my thanks. No game files.
- $8: Print-and-Play Set. The full 60-card PDF and the rulebook PDF.
- $15: Print-and-Play Set + Name in the Rulebook. Everything above, plus your name (or a nickname) in the thank-you section. I'll send a short survey after the campaign to collect it.
Stretch Goal
If we reach $1,500, I'll design a fifth costume theme with 3 new pieces and add it to every backer's PDF for free.
Timeline
- Campaign ends: funds are collected
- Playtesting and final layout: about 2-3 months
- Estimated delivery of files: 11.2026
About Me
I'm an independent creator making my first card game. I wanted to make something quick, silly, and easy to play with friends, and a dress-up theme where everyone gets to steal and strut seemed like a good fit.
Thank You
Thanks for reading. If Costume Chaos sounds fun, I'd be glad to have you on board. Questions are welcome in the comments.
