The Danger Forge, creators of the Trails & Tales old school adventures The Temple of the Serpent Queen and The Crypt of Atan-Thu, are proud to present the first issue of Danger, a new anthology of OSR adventures!
Danger is a collection of adventures inspired by the tradition of the great adventure anthologies of old. In it, you'll find six fun-sized scenarios for different character levels, tailored to be dropped into your ongoing campaign sandbox or as easy-to-set-up adventures that are perfect for casual game sessions.
DANGER INCLUDES:
- A 60-page 8.5" x 11" perfect-bound publication, with a full colour cover and black-and-white interior just like classic adventure modules.
- 6 well-organized adventures with introduction and background info, plot hooks and game master notes
- Detailed encounter areas including full descriptions and boxed flavor text consistent with the classic 1st edition style
- Maps for all adventure locations
THE SIX ADVENTURES IN DANGER ISSUE No.1 ARE:
- The Orb of Malafrey (levels 4-6): A mystic Orb has fallen into the hands of the dark wizard Malafrey. And now rival mages have begun to disappear. Do you dare enter Malafrey's tower and determine their fate?
- Black Dog (levels 2-3): The small hamlet of Ellwood is being terrorized by a mysterious beast that attacks in the dead of night. The citizens have sent a desperate plea for help to anyone brave enough to save them from a terrible fate.
- Undercurrents (levels 1-4): The Wandering Lantern Explorer's Society of Eydin is looking for volunteers to mount an expedition and explore the underground river system beneath the Madina Mountains. The faint of heart need not apply.
- Last Stand at Karkhan Keep (levels 2-3): The last thing you expected when exploring the ruins of an abandoned castle was to be besieged by a tribe of hobgoblins. It looks like getting out is going to be a lot harder than getting in.
- Harsh Language (levels 4-5): Reclaiming a stolen book from a local merchant's library sounds like an easy job. But not everything is as it seems, and sometimes you have to read between the lines.
- The Dweller Bellow (levels 5-7): The priests of Vara have uncovered a lost shrine buried beneath their temple. They have since been plagued by overwhelming dread and horrible nightmares that have driven some to madness. What lurks in the depths of the ancient darkness?
AVAILABLE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE OSR SYSTEM
We believe in the old-school renaissance and the OSR community. That's why Danger is offered as print and PDF for 1e (OSRIC), Old School Essentials Advanced Fantasy, Advanced Labyrinth Lord and Castles & Crusades. We've adapted the adventures to run smoothly on these systems so you can jump right into the game and play using your favourite rules set.
EASY TO USE AND ADAPT FOR YOUR FAVOURITE CAMPAIGN SETTING
All Danger adventures are designed to evoke the classic feel of the early adventure modules, with full descriptions, including boxed text to read aloud to players. But we've also learned a thing or two since the old days. We want our adventures to be easy to use with minimal setup. So, we've made sure that all the information is clearly organized, with GM notes, adventure backgrounds, informative maps, and orderly, easy-to-read layouts.
And while Danger adventures are set in an internally consistent fantasy world, we include simple notes that will let you easily adapt them to your favourite fantasy campaign setting or your own homebrew world.
Danger is made by humans for humans and uses no AI art or written content. We’ve already commissioned some great art for this project. The cover is by the Clark Ocleasa, and the interior artists include Carlos Castilho, Felipe Faria, Creea Revueltas, Chuili Wizard, Konrad Quoyans and Del Teigeler. Mario Scaffardi also created all the maps and cartography. We’re thrilled to support artists, and the more we raise through this Kickstarter, the more outstanding illustrations we can fund!
We want to point out that our pledge and stretch goals are in Canadian dollars. If you live in the U.S., a print copy of Danger will cost you about $15.00 U.S. (+ printing and shipping). If you're an international backer you can also take advantage of a better exchange rate than vs. the American dollar.
For the first issue of Danger, we've opted to fulfill your digital and print rewards through DriveThruRPG. Once the creation of the PDF and print version are complete, getting your reward is as simple as going to DriveThruRPG and accessing them using a supplied code. For print copies, you'll be charged for the shipping and at cost printing. And to ensure you're still getting a great deal, we've lowered our typical pledge cost for print copies to compensate for the small additional printing cost (approx $4-6 USD)
There are some pretty solid advantages to using DriveThruRPG to fulfill your pledges:
- Accessing your PDF copies is easy and straightforward, and they'll always be in your DriveThruRPG library in case they get accidentally deleted or corrupted.
- Getting your print copy is equally easy, and shipping is done through DriveThruRPG, ensuring your reward arrives at the correct address safe and sound.
- For American backers, fulfilment through the U.S. avoids possible tariff issues.
- You get the peace of mind that comes from getting your rewards fulfilled by an established distributor.
If you've dealt with DriveThruRPG, all of the above will be very familiar to you. But if you haven't, we'll post updates when we're ready to guide you through the process.
Important: Please don’t include shipping or printing costs in your pledge. These will be calculated during the fulfillment phase at DriveThruRPG once the rewards are ready to ship.
We've got several reward options to suit every need and budget.
1) PDF - For only $10.00 CAD, you can get a PDF copy of Danger in any one (1) of the following OSR systems: 1e (OSRIC), Old School Essentials Advanced Fantasy, Advanced Labyrinth Lord, and Castles & Crusades.

We'd be more than happy to put in the extra work required for these stretch goals. Let's make them happen!
Stretch Goal 1: 6 Additional New Monsters - These new creatures are designed specifically for the adventures in the first issue of Danger, and can also be used in your ongoing campaign. Each new monster entry includes a black-and-white illustration, overview, detailed combat abilities, and lore, as well as complete stat blocks created specifically for the 4 available OSR rules.
Stretch Goal 2: 6 Additional New Magic Items - These new items also include a new black and white illustration, item history and background, as well as powers and abilities. All new items are adapted to the 4 available OSR rules.
THE CRYPT OF ATAN-THU OSR ADVENTURE
The Crypt of Atan-Thu is an OSR adventure for 4-6 characters, level 6-8. In this module, the players will enter the ancient lair of an infamous necromancer and explore dark and dangerous chambers, solve mysterious riddles, and encounter new and terrifying monsters.
The adventure is a classic funhouse dungeon crawl inspired by the great 1st edition modules of yesteryear. It includes 3 levels with over 80 fully described locations filled with fiendish traps, deadly guardians, and intricate puzzles. But fair warning, The Crypt of Atan-Thu is not for the faint of heart and will challenge new and experienced players alike. The module includes an optional Horror and Madness game mechanic to increase the adventure's difficulty.
The module can be played as a stand-alone adventure or easily woven into your existing story arc. It is fully self-contained and is a perfect addition to your campaign sandbox.
Available in PDF format for 1e(OSRIC), Advanced Labyrinth Lord, Old School Essentials Advanced Fantasy, Swords & Wizardry and Castles & Crusades.
THE TEMPLE OF THE SERPENT QUEEN OSR ADVENTURE
The Temple of the Serpent Queen is an OSR adventure for 4-6 characters level 5-7. In this module, the players will be pitted against the cult of an ancient power known as Khaliassa, the Serpent Queen of Samarra. They will travel to a village in desperate need of aid and venture into a dark and dangerous forest, explore abandoned ruins, encounter new and terrifying monsters, and infiltrate an evil temple where they will confront the minions of the Serpent Queen and perhaps Khaliassa herself.
Part wilderness adventure, part dungeon crawl, this module will present various challenges for new and seasoned players alike. The adventure also includes an optional game mechanic that increases the power of the party's enemies with the passage of time, adding urgency to the game play.
The plot is streamlined, featuring NPCs with clear personalities and motives. And while the objectives are well defined, there is enough detail in the content to allow a sandbox style of play and inspiration for further adventures once the module goals are achieved.
Available in PDF format for 1e(OSRIC), Advanced Labyrinth Lord, Old School Essentials Advanced Fantasy, and Swords & Wizardry.
What we raise in this Kickstarter campaign will go toward the creation, layout, editing, and design of this first issue.
It will also pay for the art in Danger issue 1 and the unlocked stretch goals. The more we raise, the more we can pay artists to create wonderful illustrations for this adventure!
At The Danger Forge, we love everything about TTRPGs, but our heart is with the OSR community. The early editions of fantasy role-playing games were our gateway to the vast world of imagination.
We want to take our passion for those game systems and produce adventures and accessories that allow like-minded players and enthusiasts to relive the thrills from their early role-playing days and inspire new generations to explore those great game systems with fresh new adventures.
And we've got big plans. If this Kickstarter campaign succeeds, we have more issues of Danger and adventures ready to develop. Our hope is that Danger, along with Trails & Tales, becomes an ongoing product line of OSR-friendly adventures and accessories. And who knows, maybe a mega-dungeon or rules expansion book is in the works too? Your support will go a long way in making these ambitious plans a reality!
