Desi Chew: The Card Game
"Desi Chew: The Card Game" is a deliciously strategic Patent Pending card game where you race to build three balanced Indian meals before your opponents do. Draw a character — maybe you're feeding a hungry Athlete, a picky Kid, or a health-conscious Grandma, and then a dietary preference — maybe you are a hard core non vegetarian who wants some meat in every meal or a conditional vegetarian who doesn't eat meat on Thursdays and Saturdays — then stack food cards edge-to-edge to match their exact nutritional needs.
But here's the twist: each card edge represents a different macronutrient (protein, carbs, fats, fiber), and they have to line up perfectly. Combine a Naan with Butter Chicken for protein, add a Roti and a salad for fiber, and suddenly you've got a meal that would make any Indian grandmother proud.
The game gets more intense with every card you play because you're not just racing the clock—you're racing your friends, dodging their Power Cards (ever had someone steal your food with a "Meal Breaker"?), and trying to remember if your character is a Pescatarian while someone plays "Wild Child" and forces you to build a dessert-only meal.
We created "Desi Chew: The Card Game" because we believe food is more than fuel —it's culture, it's family, it's the stories we tell around the dinner table. And we think this game combines the best of what we love: vibrant Indian cuisine, sneaky-smart nutrition education, and the kind of chaotic fun that makes game night legendary.
So if you're into card games, or samosas, or teaching your kids that dal has protein without them rolling their eyes—please help us make this game a reality. We think you'll love it as much as we do.
With love and extra ghee,

THE ORIGIN STORY
The idea for "Desi Chew: The Card Game" started when were creating an All Natural Instant Food Brand trying to introduce Indian food to our 2 year old. My Husband and I also wanted explain macronutrients to our daughter and parents to encourage having a nutritious meal.
We wanted to show them what balance actually looked like—but every resource I found was either boring flashcards or preachy apps that made vegetables seem like punishment.
Over the next few weeks, two important things happened: First, My husband and I sketched out a card-matching mechanic where Indian foods could stack together like a real thali—dal + roti + paneer = balanced meal. Second, my family playtested it at Diwali dinner and got so competitive that my aunt accused my uncle of cheating (he was).
We realized we had something special: a game that taught nutrition without feeling like homework, celebrated Indian food without exoticizing it, and created the kind of table-flipping drama that makes families come back for round two.
We named it "Desi Chew: The Card Game" and our mission was born: make nutrition fun, make Indian cuisine known, and make game night delicious.
BUT YOU'RE TEACHING KIDS ABOUT MACROS! ISN'T THAT INTENSE?
We struggled with this a lot. We wanted to teach balanced eating, but we didn't want to create food anxiety or make kids obsess over numbers.
Eventually we realized: kids are already learning about nutrition—usually from TikTok influencers or diet culture nonsense. Why not teach them in a way that's playful, culturally grounded, and actually accurate?
First, we tried making it super scientific with exact calorie counts and micronutrients. But that felt too much like a textbook.
Next, we tried hiding all the numbers and just using colors. But that felt like we were dumbing it down.
In the end, we realized that everyone understands food combinations. You know dal goes with rice. You know a thali needs variety. Our game just gives you the language to understand why those combinations work—and makes it fun to experiment.
From there, the rest of the cards fell into place. The Power Cards became playful disruptions (steal someone's meal! force them to eat dessert!), and the Character and Dietary Preference Cards gave everyone different challenges to solve.
HELP US BUILD THIS GAME
We wanted to put this project on Kickstarter because it's the fastest way to get the game into your hands and build a community around it. We think this game is great, but we need your help making it even better.
We're working with manufacturers to keep costs down and quality high. We've already prototyped the cards, playtested with families, and refined the rules until they're as smooth as perfectly cooked basmati rice.
So, if a world where kids actually want to learn about nutrition is a world you want to live in, please back this project and help us build this game.
With love and perfectly balanced thalis,
