Eastfront PC/Mac Game

About the Developer:

 

Columbia Games’ Eastfront is being developed by Keith Fountain of Foible Games, a Canadian game developer specializing in converting board games into video games.

 

Keith has been playing Eastfront for over 30 years, and almost as much time playing Westfront and Eurofront.  Creating a modern video game version of Eastfront was a longtime goal of his, and in 2025 he, publisher Avalon Digital and Columbia Games agreed to make it a reality.

 

In developing the game, Keith’s priority was to replicate the experience of playing the board game as closely as possible. All Eastfront rules are implemented, and the game uses 3D graphics so it looks like it would when playing the board game.  Even the game tutorial is directly lifted from the board game’s tutorial scenario.

 

Of particular importance in this is gameplay, which Keith designed to be as fluid as possible so that the excitement and tension of the board game comes through in the video game.  With the computer handling calculations of control, supply, production and even movement range, players can focus on the tactics and strategies they need to win the game. Playing online with another player is easy to set up, and there’s even a hotseat mode for using pass-and-play with a handheld PC like the Steam Deck.  And, of course, there will be a strategy AI to play against, which will be using cutting-edge strategic algorithms to give even expert players a challenge.  Players will enjoy other quality of life aspects of the game like multiple undo and multiple autosaves, as well as being able to save and load games.
