Every good heist hinges on the last few minutes. Will a falling drop of perspiration trigger the floor sensors? Will the guards realize they're watching a recorded video of the bank vault? Can the thieves...erm, heroes escape from the top of a skyscraper?
Exactly As Planned is a real-time cooperative game that emulates the fast-paced coordination of problems and resources in the final minutes of your heist. All players win the game as a team of “partners in crime” by completing a Heist together. However, if any partner on the team fails, the players lose the game as a team.
The team of "asset reallocation specialists" must coordinate Jobs and Tools between themselves during a Heist. Each of the Heists promises a fresh gaming experience. Meanwhile, Backup Plans provide a unique communication and organizational challenge.
Between now and the end of the Heist in five minutes, you'll need to collect some Jobs and Tools.
Jobs show your personal contribution to the Heist on a polaroid.
Jobs require Tools, and each partner also has their own Tools. After all, if you're climbing on the outside of the building, you can't easily pass a crowbar to your partner in the vault.
Tools are never "used up" on your Jobs (your Camera Tool is not disposable!). If your Tools include Money and Paint, you can use them to satisfy a job that requires 2 Quick Tools (because Money and Paint are both Quick). At the end of a Heist, you'll check to see if your Jobs are completed, so you can still use the Money and Paint to also satisfy other Jobs.
Every Tool can have up to four icons or names. You can see below that the Paint is both a Quick Tool and a Stunt Tool (the crate icon).
Your team's Heist has its own special way for the partners to win the game. In fact, all of the Heists have a different way to win...
The game includes five Heists that provide a wide variety in gameplay, including the newly added Solo and Duo Heists. Each Heist provides a completely different way to play the game, including setup, gameplay, and victory. Think of the Heist as a scenario that everyone is playing.
- The Double Blind Scam is a beginner's introduction to deciding who should take each card as it is revealed.
- The Bonnie & Clyde Waltz is a flurry of exchanges as each partner tries to create a successful hand of Jobs from an initial offering of randomized cards.
- Quiz Show is a tense trust-fall, where everyone can see what's in your hand except you.
Our game was originally designed for a team of three to five players. But wait! Some of the greatest masters in "procurement" worked alone or in pairs. Introducing: Solo and Duo Heists!
These game modes have been designed specifically to be played with only one or two people. If you've been itching for a great five-minute game experience to play either with a best friend or with your bestest friend (yourself!), you'll love these two new additions.
The complete rules for the Heists are in the rulebook, but each Heist card has some quick setup and reminder text. If you want another layer of excitement, maybe give everyone a Backup Plan...
Would you like a flavorful restriction throughout the game? Can you "speak only in questions" while navigating everyone else's restriction? Should each partner have their own Backup Plan, or should all the partners share the same restriction?
Expert thieves will sometimes take on overwhelming challenges, but they'll always carry a Backup Plan. These restrictions help simulate those Heists where everyone has had to resort to their Backup Plans. They are great for adding variety, an important component of any five-minute game.
If you are up for a challenge, is it time to level up?
A master thief instinctively understands the inherent value of a Tool and the requirements for a Job. Crank up the difficulty level by playing with either one or both decks of Master Thief cards, where the texts and symbols have been removed. The deluxe Master Thief reward level includes the original decks.
By removing the critically important text and symbols, the Master Thief decks highlight the work of our artist, Josh Tufts. We think this enhances putting together the two full table illustrations of the Jobs and Tools, combining all of the cards in each deck into a beautiful single image. Also, with no words, the Master Thief edition is a language friendly game. (Sanity not included.)
Go to itch.io to play the solo (1-player) Cakewalk Heist at its base-difficulty level. The only way to play the other four cooperative Heists is to back the physical game!
