"The galaxy is torn asunder by war so constant and unending that not even the sands of time can measure their longevity. There is nothing to savour, for even the grandest of victories is forgotten in the constant cacophony of war.
This Kickstarter is the release of two new factions to the Weeping Stars tabletop wargame - The Karapas and the Akula. One is an entity that has destroyed entire universes based solely on unfathomable whims. The latter is an empire of clones with zealot-souls, clad in stealth systems and deadly weapons.
“ Existence’s favoured; hidden and poised to attack the infidels that dare stand against the chosen of divinity.
The Akula are an empire unified under the divine rule of the "one of light". Their people are born from machines that birth them according to the genetic blueprints of their long-dead race. The memories of a life not lived fight within them as their unique soul struggles to find themselves. This disturbance leads to the pinnacle of faith and zealotry, for only in the divine can they find purpose and belonging. With this faith, they take to the stars to spread their domain, using their incredible technologies to purge the infidels.
The Akula faction revolves around stealth and hard-hitting but shorter-range weapons. Their units have powerful weapons that become more effective at closer ranges. They close this range using their stealth rules that provide a puzzle for the enemy to solve before it is too late. Their powerful ploys all allow for complicated manoeuvres, and their tactics let you control the battlefield.
" To survive the Karapas is not to defeat them, but to simply last until their unfathomable whims send them away, or until every last one of you is dead.
Within their dark silhouettes, you see entire universes consumed. After destroying yet another universe, they translated into this universe. Where their swarm brushes, worlds die. They are fathomless, their motives either too grand or alien to ever be given voice by the mere mortals that perceive but a fraction of them with eyes dripping with insanity. The races see them as mere pests, but they will one day consume this universe as they have done a hundred times before. They are the eaters of a thousand, thousand worlds and innumerable suns. For them, there is no resistance. For them, universes are but passing moments. For them, life is but an insignificant idea. For us, it is best to pray that we know not of their nature, and we must pray to die before this universe ends in calamity.
The Karapas are a horde faction. They have the cheapest units of any faction and can bring inexorable numbers to the battlefield. They have only a few turns before they are automatically slain, yet ways to bring in many more for each one slain.
Weeping Stars is a passion project of mine. It is modelled after many existing wargames while adding unique elements and improvements that I have thought of after playing many, many tabletop games. Weeping Stars requires no list building and does not require waiting for your turn for an hour. This Wargame allows for immersion whilst not taking more than two hours to play, even at larger scales. Each faction is tailor-made to feel unique, with faction rules that make playing each faction its own fun experience.
Weeping Stars is similar to other such wargames, but has a few key deviations and improvements:
- Less than 10 pages are needed to play, and you only need to read one page to start playing.
- Units are not lost, instead, you deploy more units as the battle goes on. This means that you no longer have to fear losing an important unit on turn 1.
- Scoring and battlefield control are simplified whilst still providing the same tactical and strategic depth.
- Streamlined rules mean a massive battle takes less than 2-3 hours.
- Every faction is uniquely suited for battle, and every unit is impactful, with every playstyle possible and viable.
You can proxy the models that you already have to try out this game system.
The rules are in full colour, with highlights to make reading them as easy as possible. In addition, a single double page is needed to have all of the turn-by-turn action at hand. They are available for free on Myminifactory.
Enjoy, and take care,
