Story

A single person stands in the center of an empty street. Although the town is quiet, light shines in some windows. Below the image, a suite of items are displayed including: one hardcover book, two booklets, a paper pad, a GM Screen, and a dice set.

Once, twelve great kingdoms ruled Malakor in a golden age of prosperity. Magic flowed strongly in the noble houses, and that magic was used for the betterment of all. In time, corruption turned ruler against ruler, and a great war erupted between the kingdoms. A war fought not just with armies but with powerful magic that eventually tore the world asunder, but the old kingdoms did not fall. They became something worse.

Kings and Queens became monstrosities stuck between life and death, hungering for the souls of those who still live.

Now the Twelve Kingdoms belong to the Fellborn.

A black and white detailed sketch of a skeletal king in tattered royal robes. He wields a staff and amulet with a smoky crown upon his head.
A Hollowed King in his tattered regalia. Insulting his fashion would lead to dire results.

Humanity survives in scattered enclaves in the shadows of the shattered kingdoms. Danger lurks in all directions; fell beasts wander the countryside, creatures from other dimensions have slipped through fissures in reality, and somewhere beyond the walls of every settlement, the servants of the Fell are waiting.

But humanity is not defenseless.

There are still those willing to protect their fellow humans from this new world, whether out of purpose or for profit. People willing to wield the very magic that destroyed the old world to protect those who remain.

Exiles. Forsaken Knights. Witch Thieves. Occultists. Fell Spawn.

And You.

What is Fell Arcana?

Red Banner with skeleton "What is Fell Arcana?"

Fell Arcana is a dark fantasy tabletop roleplaying game.

The game combines:

  • Dark and gothic fantasy
  • OSR-inspired rules
  • 10 minute character creation
  • A simple Tarot-driven magic system
  • Corruption that grows as you wield greater power
  • A post-apocalyptic world designed for open-ended campaigns
  • Horrific monsters and corrupted nobility

Fell Arcana is a rules-lite d6 system, and no experience with tarot is required to play. In fact, this is our simplest tarot integration yet. Learning the rules is easy. Surviving the world is another matter entirely.

A torn image displaying a spread of tarot cards with a hand about to draw another. The scene features a skull and other small bones and is lit with a candle. It states, "Magic is power. Power is corruption."
Tarot readings can be complicated. Our magic system is not. One card, one suit, one spell type.

In Fell Arcana, magic is represented by Tarot cards. Each card is a remnant of the raw Arcana that tore the world asunder, waiting to be claimed. Its suit determines the nature of the magic, while its value reflects its power.

Magic is not learned from dusty tomes or memorized as spells. It is found. Those brave enough to wield the Arcana draw this lingering power into themselves and shape it into something usable: a weapon, a ward, a curse, a miracle.

Every time you call upon magic, you risk Corruption. Push too far, fail too often, or rely too heavily on the Arcana, and risk becoming what you seek to destroy.

Every character begins with a Soul Card drawn from the Major Arcana. The card represents the character’s soul, fundamental to who you are.

The Fool. The Magician. The Tower. Death. The Devil. The Moon. All 22 Major Arcana shape characters differently, each providing different abilities and drawbacks.

But as Corruption builds, fracturing your soul and your identity, you must draw additional Soul Cards. Each brings more power, but power always has a cost.

What's in the Book?

The Fell Arcana core rulebook is designed to get the game out of the ether and onto the table quickly. The rulebook features a beautifully haunting full suite of hand-drawn art by digital artist Hannah Rivera. It contains everything needed to create characters and begin exploring the Fallen Kingdoms, including:

A banner with a dagger and helmet listing The 2d6 core system, Combat, damage, armor, healing, and recovery, Tarot-based spellcasting, and Corruption rules
A banner showing a human character and listing: Complete rules for character creation, Roles and Traits, Descriptions for each Major Arcana Soul Card, and roleplay suggestions
A banner with a pile of skulls impaled by swords with a bullet list about the Lore-rich world: The Twelve Fallen Kingdoms Enclaves and life after the fall A Bestiary of Fell creatures and extradimensional entities
A banner showing the drama joy and tragedy masks with a bullet list about the Game Master Guide listing: Tips for creating adventures and campaigns Game Master tools and advice The introductory adventure Shadows Over Ebon Bridge

A 50-sheet pad of physical character sheets for campaigns, convention games, one-shots, and the inevitable replacement character after someone decides entering the Fell-Lords chamber is probably fine.

It was not fine.

TWO NEW ADVENTURES

These adventures will take the game beyond the material found in the core rulebook and offer new locations, new horrors, new characters, and new ways for your players to make extremely questionable decisions.

More information about our guest writers and their adventures will be revealed during the campaign.
