Flowers of Fantasy and Fate: Issue 1 Olig-Vald: The Persistence of Progress.

This is a fantasy micro-hexcrawl for OSE characters of Level 4 and up. In this first (of what I hope to be many) zine, players enter into Olig-Vald and discover that "progress" marches on, uncaring of those crushed underfoot. The newly appointed Margrave has thrown his power and wealth behind humanocentric policies, ousting or oppressing all demi-humans in the area. His obsession with technology has poisoned the river, and with it, the entire forest. The seat of power, the small town of Einsicht, has never been more sharply divided. Poverty is rampant and tensions are at an all time high. 

In the Vald, many enchanting things await the curious: a museum owner with a mysterious past, a noble house of rats, a metal colossus of a bygone age, and more.

For the Referee, this 32 (letter-sized) page zine contains: 

The Town of Einsicht: A small and dying town ruled by an intentionally useless council, plagued by poverty, and oppressively surveilled by automatons and guards alike.

15 named and detailed NPCs: Each have their own art, wants, needs, relationships and secrets. 

A 7 Hex Overland Map: Complete with weather, travel, and encounter tables and guidelines. 

2 Adventure Locations: 

Der Brunner: A open pit mine producing the oil for the unquenchable thirst of the Margrave and his automatons. Staffed by the forced labor of abducted demi-humans, it is on the brink of riot. All the while, it pumps toxic waste into the river.

The Sleeping Colossus: A mechanical colossus of a long forgotten age, buried in the rolling hills. Once a super weapon for a now extinct empire, a tinkerer has found it. His curiosity outweighs his caution and his meddling may very well reactivate the behemoth.

3 Major Factions: The dying Druids, clinging to a life that is rapidly being buried and forgotten. The Margrave and his elite, interested only in increasing their wealth and power, no matter who or what must be oppressed, killed, or poisoned. And Pfarrer Dietrich Roth and his single convert, Inbar; members of a new religion dedicated to the natural cycle of life, who have found themselves in an awkward standing, with no true allies to be seen. 

And more: 3 New Automaton Monsters, 5 New Druid Spells, and 4 New Magic Items.

As it Stands: The writing is done and the playtesting is underway. While some edits are being made, the zine is already in a good, playable state. I am not kickstarting to write this zine. It is already written! I am only kickstarting to cover the costs of interior art. 

The Cover Art is by Maxim Lowe. 

After the campaign, interior art will be done by HodagRPG.

Conversion to Other Systems: While this was written for Old School Essentials, it may well be useful for other, similar games. Such as: Labyrinth Lord, Swords and Wizardry, Basic Fantasy RPG, and even Shadowdark.
