AI-assisted illustration based on my current CAD/prototype references and directed design revisions. Shown open and folded; this is a design visualization, not a finished-product photograph.

FoldForge Terrain: Build the battlefield. Fold it away.

Designed for Warhammer 40,000 11th edition

Kickstarter launch target: October 19 · $10,000 goal by November 30 · First-batch arrival before Christmas is the aim · US only · 2026

The battlefield should be the big part of game night.

I’m Ethan, the maker behind Ultimate Tabletop Shop. I’m designing FoldForge for players who want a battlefield with presence at the table and a practical way to take it home.

FoldForge is a folding plywood terrain system being designed specifically for Warhammer 40,000 11th edition. You can also use it for other games that involve terrain. Its walls fold around a corner hinge, and the raised floor sections stay attached to their walls for storage.

Choose plain or engraved surfaces, an unassembled kit or an assembled set, and an optional fitted wooden carrying case. All terrain is supplied unpainted.

The AI-assisted illustrations are based on my current CAD/prototype references and the design revisions I’ve directed. They visualize the product I’m developing; they are not finished-product photographs. The animation illustrates the intended movement and case packing. I’ll show real prototypes and a continuous folding demonstration in campaign updates as testing is completed.

A fixed footprint. Attached folding floors.

I’m designing the ground footprint with holes that locate the wall tabs and set the playing angle. The raised floors split into two sections, one hinged to each wall, with aligned seams and planned 90-degree stops.

  1. Open the walls and seat their tabs in the footprint.
  2. Lower the raised floor sections into playing position.
  3. After the game, raise the floors, lift the walls clear of the footprint, and complete the 270-degree reverse fold.

The walls finish back-to-back with the raised floor panels folded upward on the outside. The ground footprint packs separately. Exterior decorative pillars conceal projecting floor-hinge attachments, while wood inserts finish flush inside the walls. Brass axles remain visible at the floor hinges.

The tall EF ruins have three total levels: ground, second floor, and third floor. The other large ruins have two total levels: ground and second floor.

I’m testing floor support, hinge travel, clearances, and the locating-base connection. I’ll show the finished mechanism in use in campaign updates as testing is completed.

Designed for Warhammer 40,000 11th edition

I’m using the published terrain rules and footprints as design requirements. I’ll publish the final measured dimensions in campaign updates as testing is completed; individual events may have additional terrain requirements.

Games Workshop discusses using different scenery and making terrain footprints in its official terrain guidance.

FoldForge is an independent product from Ultimate Tabletop Shop. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Games Workshop. Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 are Games Workshop trademarks.

The planned complete set

All four terrain formats target the same collection. The options change the surface detail and whether I assemble the set for you.

  • Folding large ruins: 8: two tall EF and six other large ruins
  • Small ruin corners / rubble: 8
  • Capacitor-style structures: 2
  • Shock-array-style obstacles: 2
  • Generator structures: 2
  • Pylon / cable sections: 4
  • Low barricades: 2
  • Scenery structures: 28
  • Separate footprint panels: 16

The eight large ruins form the folding core. The supporting obstacles and footprint panels are not advertised as folding mechanisms. The locating ground bases are included within the 16 footprints.

I’ll confirm the inventory, dimensions, and footprint outlines with a numbered photograph of the complete physical set as testing is completed. Kits require assembly. Each terrain reward contains the planned terrain structures, special scenery pieces, and footprint bases. The carrying case is available separately or with the bundle.

Introductory campaign prices in USD. Shipping is additional. All terrain is unpainted.

  • Plain terrain kit: $89
  • Engraved terrain kit: $109
  • Plain assembled terrain: $119
  • Engraved assembled terrain: $139
  • Wooden carrying case only: $99
  • Engraved assembled terrain + case: $219

The $219 bundle includes one engraved assembled set and one case, saving $19 against the separate campaign rewards.

I’m developing the case with protective padding and separate spaces for the collection. I’ll show the entire set inside the finished case, along with its dimensions and loaded weight, in campaign updates once the case is tested.

AI-assisted carrying-case concept based on my current design references. Packing arrangement and final dimensions will be confirmed through physical testing. The $99 reward is the case; the $219 bundle includes the engraved assembled terrain set and case.

Current shipping estimates are $15 for kits, $25 for an assembled set or a case, and $35 for the bundle. I’ll confirm charges and US destination coverage as testing is completed. These estimates exclude any applicable tax.

What the $10,000 supports

I’ll use the funding to build the laser cutter, make the prototype, develop the manufacturing process, and fund the launch.

My plan for the first release

  • Monday, October 19: Kickstarter launch target. I’m aiming to launch the FoldForge Kickstarter on Monday, October 19, 2026.
  • Wednesday, October 21: Finish the laser cutter. I’m aiming to finish the laser cutter by Wednesday, October 21. I’ll post an update when it’s ready.
  • October 22 – November 11: Prototype the terrain. I’ll spend about three weeks refining the folding floors, locating bases, terrain pieces, and carrying case, and share the progress during the campaign.
  • Mid-November: Develop the manufacturing process. I’ll trial a small production batch, refine assembly and packaging, and check how many sets I can reliably make.
  • By November 30: Reach the $10,000 goal. I’m aiming to reach the campaign’s $10,000 funding goal by the end of November.
  • December: Prepare and send the first batch. I’ll aim to send the first batch early enough to arrive before Christmas. I’ll confirm dispatch dates as production and shipping arrangements are finalized.

These are target dates. Arrival before Christmas is the aim for the first batch, not a guaranteed delivery date. I’ll share any schedule changes in campaign updates.

About me

I’m Ethan, and I’m starting Ultimate Tabletop Shop to make useful physical products for tabletop players. FoldForge comes from the practical challenge of carrying, setting up, and storing a battlefield. I direct the design and am responsible for building, testing, and delivering the product.

I’ll share the physical prototypes, the lessons from testing, and the production progress. After funding, I’ll post at least monthly updates and explain significant changes sooner.

Development and delivery

I’m still refining the physical product. Plywood thickness, hinge fit, repeated folding, and paint buildup can affect movement, so the prototypes need to prove the intended behavior as testing is completed.

My production trial will establish realistic batch sizes. Packaging and the loaded case also need testing. Manufacturing or shipping delays can affect delivery; I’ll keep backers informed rather than leave a changed date unexplained. Later production batches will have their own delivery estimates.

Questions before you back

Can I paint it? Yes. The terrain is supplied unpainted. The instructions will identify hinge, bearing, and stop surfaces that need to stay free of paint buildup.

What does engraved mean? Architectural lines and surface details cut into the plywood face. It does not mean painted, stained, weathered, or personalized. I’ll show plain and engraved samples side by side as testing is completed.

Do the kits need assembly? Yes. The kit rewards require assembly; the assembled terrain rewards arrive assembled. All terrain is supplied unpainted.

Is the case included? Only in the $219 bundle. It is also a separate $99 reward.

Where do you ship? The first campaign is US-only. I’ll confirm destination coverage and shipping charges in campaign updates as testing is completed.

Are digital manufacturing files included? No. The planned rewards are physical products; STL and DXF files are not included.

What if a part is damaged or missing? Contact me through Kickstarter with your backer details and photos. I’ll assess the problem and arrange an appropriate remedy.

Why Kickstarter? It lets players support the laser cutter, prototype, manufacturing process, and launch while choosing the FoldForge set they want.

Were these images made with AI? Yes. I supplied my current CAD/prototype references and specific design revisions to guide the illustrations. They visualize the product in development. The animation is illustrative, not a physical test recording. I’ll share real prototype photos and a continuous demonstration as testing is completed. AI also assisted with drafting and planning; I remain responsible for the design and fulfillment.
