Forest of Moon Denizens

Forest of Moon Denizens Book A is a stand-alone component related to Old Warlock Games' upcoming Kickstarter, Expedition to the Forest of Moon (2025 release date). Book A of Denizens contains ten beings/creatures encountered by the Wandering Elephant Expedition Company on their journey through the Forest of Moon in search of the Tomb of the Ravens. Denizens is completely system agnostic and is free of stat blocks. It contains only artwork and in-game, travelogue-style descriptions that can be used in any fantasy RPG. Denizens is available solely in PDF form, and can be used independent of any components found in the upcoming Expedition to the Forest of Moon project.

Forest of Moon Denizens Book A is a thirteen-page bestiary PDF containing ten original artworks by Old Warlock Games and an in-game description of ten beings/creatures as recorded by the Wandering Elephant Expedition Company on their journey through the Forest of Moon.

Denizens is designed to be used as an in-game manuscript for handing out to players in single sheets or as an entire booklet.  Of course, you may want to add a location in your campaign named the Forest of Moon.

All artwork and layouts for this project are complete. Final revisions of the text will be finished by the first week in February.  

About the Forest of Moon
The Forest of Moon is an ancient place.  Countless ruins lie hidden beneath its canopy, their crumbling walls bearing witness to an enormous passage of time. The forest is shrouded in perpetual twilight - the towering trees and their enormous leaves casting deep shadows that defy the seasons. Only during the brief hours of mid-day does the sun manage to penetrate some of the gloom, offering a fleeting reprieve to the forest's inhabitants.  When night falls, the wood illuminates with a faint bluish glow emitted by many of its trees and mosses, a lingering echo of the centuries of arcane manipulation seen there.  But the evening’s silence often falls victim to fierce storms of lightning and thunder that rage over the forest as midnight approaches, storms that increase their fury each day the moon moves nearer to full. 

Arcane-worshiping tribes, kingdoms of powerful queens and ruthless witch-kings - all have existed in the Forest of Moon.  Each civilization has risen, only to fall, leaving behind lonely echoes of their power.  But centuries of rituals, battles, and sorceries have woven a tapestry of dangerous mystery within the forest, shaping the very essence of its current inhabitants. The descendants of those ancient civilizations now bear the marks of their ancestors' legacies, their lives intertwined with forgotten spells and beliefs. And rumors abound of creatures that have roamed the forest since time immemorial, as well as the shadows of beings, mostly hidden and secretive, that draw power from the moon itself.

About The Wandering Elephant Expedition Company
In the Four Kingdoms, when the wealthy seek lost artifacts, treasure hoards, or knowledge, they often hire specialized retrieval companies to do the dirty work. The Wandering Elephant Expedition Company is considered by many to be the premier exploration and retrieval company that undertakes such tasks. Their most recent expedition to the Forest of Moon was a dangerous journey where they encountered beings and powers previously unknown. The company is known for keeping meticulous notes of their experiences, and Forest of Moon Denizens Book A is the newest record by the Elephants' chronicler, Mildicon.   

About Ladrick's Guide to the Forest of Moon
Much of the expedition’s information about the Forest of Moon came from Ladrick’s Guide to the Forest of Moon.  The guide was written almost three centuries earlier and is a rare and invaluable text that provides the best-known description of the Forest of Moon. Only three copies of the guide are known to exist.

Ladrick was a sorcerer and explorer who wrote detailed descriptions of his many expeditions to find rare and unique items and locations.  He undertook a journey into the Forest of Moon in search of knowledge related to lunar sorcery.  At the time, his exploration and records were dismissed as fanciful hoaxes by scholars of the Four Kingdoms.  It should be noted that the Wandering Elephant Expedition Company's recent observations validated many of his discoveries.  Chronicler Mildicon's notes build upon those written by Ladrick. 

Creator's Note: The Forest of Moon and The Wandering Elephant Expedition Company exist in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that was created in 1978 and continues to this day.
