I created a fully playable digital demo of the physical Gattara card game, available online on itch.io.

The digital version was never meant to replace the physical game. Nothing beats sitting around a table with  friends. ❤️

I spent an intense month 😫 building this demo so backers could actually experience how Gattara plays, rather than just reading the rules or watching a video. If you find any bugs, please be kind to me. 🙏

I tried to stay as true to the game as possible, but unfortunately, there aren't any screens to hide the cats like in the actual game 🤷‍♂️. The BOT cat tokens are hidden and not visible.

👥 Behind Gattara

In July 2023, we crossed the Swiss Alps on foot for a week with just one backpack each and the occasional local train. Somewhere between lakes, mountain passes and glaciers, a silly idea slowly turned into a real game.

During the trek, we kept inventing cats, characters and absurd card effects to entertain ourselves. Whenever we had a new rule or idea, we sent each other voice notes on WhatsApp...

When we finally reached St. Moritz, tired and looking like complete mountain hobos, we stopped at the historic Hanselmann Café for coffee and chocolate cake.

Inside Hanselmann Café, we finally gave the game a name: GATTARA!
Three years later, that silly idea has become a fully developed, playtested and production-ready game.

WE WANT TO RECLAIM THAT WORD. 

“Gattara” is an Italian term traditionally used for someone devoted to caring for stray cats and cat colonies. Over time, it became associated with the stereotype of the lonely “cat lady.”

But the reality is very different: these people dedicate their time and energy to protecting and caring for cats.

So we decided to redefine the term. We turned this cultural idea into a fast, competitive card game. Meet the modern Gattara (or Gattaro!): proud, tactical, and capable of attracting cats like a magnet.
