Handcrafted Wooden Game Master Screen
Par Skaperbua
Statut actuel
Most Game Master screens are mainly used to hide notes. I wanted mine to help organise the Game Master’s side of the table as well.
This screen is handmade in Norway from solid ash or walnut. You can mix panels with and without concealed steel in the same screen. Steel lets you attach notes and maps with magnets.
The recommended setup has four separate panels, each 300 × 200 × 20 mm, or approximately 11.8 × 7.9 × 0.8 inches. The prototype with steel weighs about 1.1 kg per panel before packaging.
The panels are joined by magnets concealed inside the wood. There are no external hinges or permanent connections between them.
Instead of folding as one large unit, the panels connect when the screen is in use and separate again for transport or storage. You can arrange the panels to fit the space available at the table.
The magnetic panel system is also intended as a foundation for compatible accessories that I plan to develop after this campaign. These accessories are not included in the current rewards.
Ash is included in the base price. Walnut is available from day one for NOK 200 extra per panel, with or without steel. I make both in my workshop in Norway.

Choose your wood and steel
A panel with steel has a recessed steel plate behind its wooden inner surface. You cannot see the plate, but you can use magnets to hold notes and reference cards against it.
A panel without steel has a plain wooden inner surface. Both types use the same magnetic connections, so they fit together in any order. You can rearrange them at the table.
Choose a four- or five-panel screen in ash, then add steel and walnut per panel.
Add one steel upgrade for each panel that should hold notes with magnets, and one walnut upgrade for each panel you want made in walnut. You can mix both woods and panels with and without steel in the same screen.
I will confirm the exact configuration before production. The four-panel “all steel included” reward already includes steel in all four panels, and the extra-panel add-on also includes steel. Neither upgrade adds a panel.
If the campaign reaches NOK 75,000, every physical screen reward will include a numbered initiative tracker set.
Each tracker sits over the top edge of a panel and can be read from both sides, so the Game Master and players can follow the same turn order.
The trackers can be moved or removed individually as initiative changes.
Why Kickstarter?
The design and prototypes are ready. Kickstarter will help me fund the first small production run.
The campaign will help pay for the materials and packaging needed for the first batch, and contribute to jigs and workshop upgrades that can improve production:
- solid ash and walnut
- magnets and steel inserts for panels ordered with steel
- finish and consumables
- packaging and shipping materials
- jigs and workshop equipment
This is not meant to become a mass-produced product. The aim is to produce a limited run of well-made wooden screens, with enough time to make each one properly.
Screen rewards
- Base price — solid ash without steel: four panels NOK 3,790; five panels NOK 4,690.
- Concealed steel: add NOK 100 for each panel you want with steel.
- Four ash panels with concealed steel in every panel: NOK 4,190.
- Walnut: add NOK 200 for each panel you want in walnut instead of ash.
- For example, four ash panels with steel in two panels cost NOK 3,990. Five walnut panels with steel in three panels cost NOK 5,990.
All panels have hidden magnetic connections, rounded edges and a protective finish. Shipping and applicable taxes are additional. The steel is fitted during production, not supplied as a loose insert for you to install later.
Optional extras
Simple laser engraving is a paid add-on from the start. It does not depend on a stretch goal.
A magnet starter pack with ten magnets is available as a NOK 150 add-on for screen rewards. The magnets can be used to attach notes and reference cards to panels ordered with concealed steel.
A wooden dice box is listed as a separate NOK 425 preview reward for anyone who wants something smaller than a screen. The placeholder takes its starting point from my existing Small box: solid wood, a felt-lined compartment and a removable magnetic lid. The new design, dimensions, capacity and photos will be confirmed before launch. The listed quantity, delivery date and shipping setup are provisional. The box does not include dice, a screen or an initiative tracker. Screen upgrades do not apply to this reward.
There is one stretch goal: an initiative tracker set included with screen rewards.
NOK 50,000 — Project funded
The first limited production run of screens in ash and walnut can begin.
NOK 75,000 — Initiative tracker included
Every physical screen reward, including mixed configurations, receives one numbered initiative tracker set at no additional cost. It ships with the screen. Support-only and dice-box-only rewards are not included.
I will make the screens in small batches. Four-panel rewards are scheduled for April 2027 and five-panel rewards for May 2027.
I will keep backers updated as I make and ship each batch.
