sticks and stones may break our bones, but let me validate that the insults from your childhood still hurt, diva.

hate crime friends

this simple game creates a safe space to share experiences and heal through the power of laughter and dark humor with your chosen family. it's highly absurd, deeply unserious and the perfect excuse to gather around a table and make fun of our baggage. 

with 40 title, 120 adjective and 80 noun cards included in the base game, there are almost 2 million unique combinations of descriptions you can make fun of your friends with! some house favorites include "super slutty joke", "filthy spoiled poser", "icy bald hater" and "sad flop". share your traumatic experiences from childhood (or adulthood) with your friends and address the pink elephant in the room that everyone in the friend group knows your body count or toxic family.

cool, so how do you play it?

friends mode

each player takes a turn playing the "victim". the other players then create a description of the target using a noun and up to two other descriptor cards (title/adjectives). the "victim" then selects whatever unhinged, highly absurd description they resonate with the most. 

best friends mode

in this hardcore version, one player will act as the "bully" and anonymously target someone else at the table. the bully places a description down for the rest of the players to view and privately writes down the name of victim.  the other player then openly discuss who they believe the victim is. each player then votes after the full table discussion.

expansion sets

the "queer", "mediocre" and custom expansion sets

two expansion sets themed around specific traumatic experiences of being LGBT and just kinda average are also available, with additional expansions in the works. each expansion pack includes 10 title cards, 30 adjectives and 20 noun cards to add to your based game.

depending on the reception of hcf, we're planning to have a separate base game set of toxically positive affirmations to call your friends available in the future. this is an entire base game of 40 titles, 120 adjectives and 80 nouns available, which can be played on its own or together with HCF to create highly-tailored unhinged insults, affirmations or backhanded compliments depending on who's in the hot seat.

traumatic backstory

as a gay hispanic man living in the US, i was violently hate-crimed in both 2017 and 2025 by people acting out the words voiced by certain politicians in this country. after falling victim to substance misuse and recovery, like so many traumatized before me, I realized we needed fun ways to laugh at our trauma and share our experiences.

why kickstarter?

although i'm able to produce artisanal copies of the game immediately at a small scale, we need the capital for securing the minimum order quantities produced at a full production scale.

age rating

this game is intended to be played with ages 16 and up. it has about the same language the mean girls burn book or easy a, if you're looking for reference (like a pg-13 movie biotch).

this game is about reclaiming our trauma, finding humor in the absurdity of the human condition and choosing to offend our friends equally. it is not an excuse to inflict actual harm onto others. know the difference, don't be mean-spirited and seriously... please don't be a victim about it. 

if there are any specific cards that your house finds triggering or problematic, remove them from your deck and use them for kindling. a few blank cards are included in every set to fill in your own trauma, just in case.
