—description du concepteur
Présentation de la campagne
Meet Height Fight
Height Fight is a party game for the whole family. Teams take turns placing cards in order from shortest to tallest, building one long line across the table. Everyone gets a chance to be relatively right, and pretty much everyone takes a turn at being completely wrong.
Game play is really simple. It's just about putting things in order from shortest to tallest.
Every card is something with a height.
A standard bowling pin. Mount Everest. The tallest living tree. Or like below the Space Needle in Seattle.
When you're sure the other team got one wrong, challenge them with a Height Fight Card. Put your own confidence on the line, and flip the card to find out who had it right.
Here's the part that makes it work at any table: you never have to know the exact height of anything. You just have to know it's taller than this one and shorter than that one.
Anyone can play that game.
And if you do happen to know your heights, that knowledge pays off — it's a real edge, not the price of admission.
How to Play
There's almost nothing to learn, which is the best part. Each team starts with three stacks in front of them. Here's how a round goes:
On your turn, you take a card off a stack.
Top one, any stack, your call. A porta potty. A mason jar. An adult male giraffe.
You place it on the line.
Wherever you think it goes. Taller than the card on its left, shorter than the one on its right. Then you brace.
They challenge.
Or they don't. If they think you blew it, down comes a Height Fight Card and they say which way your card should have gone.
You flip it over.
Real height, out loud, in front of everyone. If you're right, the card stays and you get to enjoy that for a second. If you're wrong, every stack you've got left grows by one.
First team to clear all three stacks wins.
Oh, and shortest player goes first. They've been waiting for this moment.
What's in the Box
229 Object Cards, each one an original Invisible Creature illustration
16 Height Fight Cards
A rulebook you'll have read before the snacks are out.
A box worth leaving on the shelf face-out.
245 cards in total. One deck, and a great many disagreements.
Design & Illustration
We didn't want a game that looked like just another card game. We wanted each card to be a small pieces of art good enough to leave out on the table when no one's playing. The kind of design and illustration work you slow down to look at on your way past it.
Because of that, we asked Don Clark and the team at Invisible Creature to do what they do best: illustrate every...single...object... in our game. Over 350 individual illustrations!
Their work has truly inspired us and has turned up at the Grammys, at NASA, in the Smithsonian, and on more record sleeves than we can count.
Who We Are
We're Ryan and Kerry, and we're the founders of Barn Boy Games. And Height Fight is our first title!
We started Barn Boy Games because the best moments happen when everyone is at the table together. We're parents, and we got tired of choosing. There were games our kids liked, and there were games we liked. There wasn't much overlap that didn't involve one side quietly enduring the other.
So we built a game that holds the whole table at once. Kids and adults on equal footing, everyone with something to contribute, nobody being managed.
There are other games on the workbench in various states of development. We're not going to name them here. Getting this one right is the job in front of us, and this campaign is how it happens.
Why Kickstarter
The design, mechanics, rules, etc part of game is locked in and we've playtested it on more tables than we can count over the last year. Right now we're finishing up the last of the artwork and production files, and then it's ready to print.
So we're not here to find out if the game works. It does, and we feel really confident in this one. We're on Kickstarter because this community is awesome and shows up for new games in a big way, because it helps us pay for a first print run, and because it'll give us a much better idea of how many we should print.
That print run is the part we could use some help with. Making a real, boxed game isn't something you get to do a little at a time. There's a manufacturer, a minimum order, tooling, and thousands of copies to pay for up front, before you've sold a single one. Sure, we know every game runs into this. You either print a lot at once or you don't print at all.
Here's the bigger reason, though. Every box in that print run ends up on somebody's table, and that's what we care about most. We're both dads. We started making games to get our own families around the table together, and we want that for a lot more families than ours. Kids, parents, grandparents, and friends, all in the same game, laughing and arguing about how tall a moose is. If Height Fight and the Barn Boy games that come after it get to be part of those nights for years, that's the win for us.
Anyway. If you back it, you're not waiting in line behind a store. You get it first, straight from us, and you're a big part of the reason it ends up on anyone's table at all.
Thanks everyone in advance!
We're producing with Panda Game Manufacturing, who make a great many of the games already on your shelf. If you've backed tabletop projects before, you know the name, and you know what it means for the quality of what shows up in the box.
