What Are the Discovery Cards?
Discovery Cards are hand-drawn companions for reflection, movement, and embodied living.
There is no single right way to begin. Pull a card, choose one that calls to you, or begin with your body or surroundings. You might choose a companion, bring a question, or enter a practice.
However you begin, each card invites new relationships with your body, your surroundings, and what is unfolding in your life.
The Card Begins the Discovery
Unlike most oracle decks, the Discovery Cards don't tell you what to do. They invite discovery through relationship.
A card can become a companion, a movement, a conversation, or a place to explore. As you spend time with it, meaning can unfold through your body, your surroundings, your memories, and your actions.
Sometimes a card becomes a movement. Sometimes it becomes a conversation. Sometimes the room itself becomes part of the reading.
The meaning isn't fixed in the card. It comes alive through a relationship.
Three Types of Cards
Lens Cards
Discover how awareness moves through your body.
These cards help you sense breath, gesture, touch, choice, connection, and imagination as doorways into your Rasa.
Animist Cards
Enter conversation with the living world.
These cards act as portals and teachers, inviting you to learn from places, objects, landscapes, weather, and the more-than-human world.
Suwung Cards
Rest in spacious awareness.
These cards open the pause beneath every movement, where stillness, uncertainty, and transformation can be felt before the next step emerges.
Each draw becomes a conversation between you and the world.
One Living World
Each card stands alone. Together, they form a world.
The Discovery Cards are rooted in an imagined Austronesian village ecosystem of paths, thresholds, homes, waters, fields, trees, gathering places, and people of different bodies, ages, and abilities.
A doorway may appear in one card and reappear somewhere else. A path may lead toward a threshold. A gathering place may connect to a field, a river, or a home.
As cards are combined, new relationships emerge.
You can spend time with a single card, or explore how multiple cards interact across a larger landscape of discovery.
Hand-drawn by Indonesian artist Cita Farani, each card contributes to a living ecosystem that can be explored again and again.
Why These Cards Exist
My parents immigrated from Indonesia after experiencing colonization and ethnic persecution. Growing up, I became increasingly disconnected from my family's history, culture, and ways of understanding the world.
Years later, after becoming a father, I began searching for ways to reconnect.
Through dance, rehabilitation, community practice, and my exploration of rasa—the Indonesian word for taste, essence, or felt sense—I developed approaches that help people engage life's questions through body, place, imagination, and relationship.
The Discovery Cards grew from that journey.

More Than a Deck
The Discovery Cards emerged through years of practice with communities, artists, organizers, caregivers, educators, and people seeking meaningful ways to engage life’s questions.
They have already been shared through 200+ one-on-one readings, six-week community cohorts, workshops, retreats, artist gatherings, caregiver programs, Southeast Asian community spaces, public events, and community dinners.
This Kickstarter supports more than a printed deck. It helps bring a living practice into its first edition
A Practice Shaped by Community
The Discovery Cards grew out of years of Moving Rasa’s community-based work with caregivers, survivors, artists, educators, organizers, and cultural workers.
Across Moving Rasa programs, this practice has reached 3,000+ participants through 50+ workshops and gatherings with 25+ community partners.
How people are using them:
The Discovery Cards did not begin as an idea on a screen. They grew through real readings, movement explorations, workshops, caregiver programs, artist gatherings, and community circles.
People have used the cards to sit with questions, reconnect with their bodies, notice their surroundings differently, and open conversations that needed more space.
