In Holmes & Co., you are a private detective trying to solve a murder. Working alongside your colleagues, you will search for the truth by gathering clues, questioning suspects, and, most importantly, using your powers of deduction.

Set in a world inspired by the great traditions of crime fiction, Holmes&Co. offers a unique experience focused on investigation and reasoning. Players take on the roles of detectives tackling intricate cases that will challenge their analytical and intuitive skills.

In Holmes&Co., you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in three distinct branches of crime fiction: 

- Classic Detective Stories, where logic and deduction reign supreme.
- Action-Packed Mysteries, where danger lurks in every shadow and quick thinking can mean the difference between life and death.
- Legal Thrillers, where justice is won not only on the streets but in the courtroom, through cunning arguments and relentless pursuit of the truth.

Each genre comes with its own set of tailored mechanics, ensuring that investigators have the right tools to solve their cases in a manner fitting their chosen style of play.

Originally published in Italy in 1986, Holmes&Co. was the country's first non-fantasy investigative roleplaying game. This new edition preserves the essence of the original while refining its mechanics and expanding its world, making it even more engaging for modern players.

Rules

You don’t need to be a crime fiction bookworm to enjoy Holmes&Co., the mysteries you’ll face are designed to test your intellect and intuition, not your expertise in detective literature. Whether you're a seasoned investigator or stepping into the world of crime fiction for the first time, the game will guide you effortlessly through the art of deduction.
The only question left is: who will take on the role of the Storyteller, who will lead detectives into a world of intrigue and weave the web of mystery?

For experienced players, this new edition of Holmes&Co. features an incremental rules system that allows for a progression in both gameplay and storytelling. 

The three genres follow a logical learning curve:
•    Classic Detective Stories form the game's foundation, focusing on deduction and careful investigation.
•    Action-Packed Mysteries build upon these core mechanics, adding danger, urgency, and fast-paced decision-making elements.
•    Legal Thrillers incorporate aspects from both previous genres, challenging players to investigate legal cases and scenarios.

This system ensures that Detectives and Storytellers develop their investigative skills step by step, transitioning smoothly between different styles of crime fiction while gaining confidence in running more intricate cases.

At Holmes&Co., we aim to make every case a unique and memorable experience. To achieve this, we have entrusted the writing of the cases to several authors, each with their voice, style and vision of mystery.

This choice allows us to explore all the nuances of the three investigative genres, developed through the styles of different authors.

The project consists of two volumes:

• The Corebook, which, in addition to the rules, contains three cases.
• The Casebook, which includes three more cases.

Each case is inspired by a different subgenre, era and setting in both volumes, so the game's full potential can be appreciated.

The stretch goals will be revealed during the campaign and will be of the following types:

• New adventures, created by various authors and disclosed one at a time. The new cases will be added to the Casebook V.1.
• New pregens, for the newly revealed adventure or an existing one, already included in the Corebook or the Casebook V.1.
• Corebook Upgrades, which will increase the number of pages in the volume.
• Rules Sheet, stand-alone cards to help Storytellers guide game sessions. 

• Holmes&Co. is an Italian project that developed in English and Italian: if funded, all materials will be fulfilled in April 2026.  

Pledges will be delivered as follows:

• English copies will be delivered via Drivethru Fulfilment.
• Italian copies will be delivered by regular post and with a Pledge Manager.

ENGLISH COPIES

The PDFs, printed books, and/or items will be fulfilled via DriveThruRPG.
At the end of the campaign, each backer will receive a unique link to order their own print-on-demand copy.
The campaign will already cover the printing cost — backers will only be asked to pay for shipping.
