Kitten BuBu Playing Cards

Story about the Bubu Project

It all started with Kitten's Diary — a deck of cards that turned a kitten's everyday moments into art. To our surprise, it sold over 10,000 decks in China alone, and its charm reached far beyond the card-collecting crowd. It struck a chord — and that's when we knew we had to keep going.

Back then, we kept things simple — just clean line drawings and a minimalist style, with only the most basic version available. But over the years, our team's design skills — particularly in packaging — have grown tremendously. So we set out to create something more polished and elevated.

So we created Kitten Bubu.

Bubu — or Buboo — is a charming little Siamese cat with a free soul. Bubu sleeps soundly, wanders curiously, plays wildly, and sometimes sits quietly watching the world go by. Bubu loves water, loves company, and loves solitude just as much.

We hope you’ll join Bubu on this journey.

Project Overview

Superstar Bubu Special Edition Tuck Box

Bubu has become a superstar, gracing the television screen. There he is, strolling along at ease, as if the whole world has slowed down just for him.

To make this scene feel more alive, we used grid animation. The card box is designed like a TV — just slide the tab up and down, and Bubu starts walking on the screen.

Limited to 500 decks for this edition.

The card box is made of silver specialty paper. When light hits it, it reflects a rainbow-like iridescence, giving the TV-shaped box a premium, textured look.

The little decorative touches on the TV are brought to life with embossing — a subtle texture that makes every detail a delight to discover.

Massage Bubu Special Edition Tuck Box

You're giving Bubu a belly rub — and Bubu is absolutely loving it, those little eyes rolling back in pure joy!

We named this one "Massage Bubu" — because, well, you're literally massaging Bubu!

Limited to 500 decks for this edition.

This special box has a neat little trick — just put your finger on Bubu's belly and wiggle it, and Bubu's eyes will follow your every move!

For this box, too, we turned to silver specialty paper — brushing it across the floor and curtains, letting its subtle shimmer breathe warmth and depth into the scene.

Hiding Bubu & Peeking Bubu Standard Edition Tuck Box

Bubu has a passion for hide-and-seek, forever slipping into the most unexpected nooks — nestled in boxes, curled inside cabinets, veiled by curtains, or tucked beneath the bed.

We came up with two fun scenes. One is pink-themed, with Bubu peeking out of a box — that's "Peeking Bubu." The other has Bubu sneaking behind the curtains — and you guessed it, that's "Hiding Bubu."

Limited to 1100 decks for each edition.

Number Cards

How do we capture the richness of Bubu's life? The number cards turned out to be the perfect canvas for exactly that.

Each number card blends Bubu, a scene, and the traditional pips into one cohesive design. This way, we preserve the classic card function while bringing Bubu's everyday adventures to life.

Every card is hand-illustrated by our designers, with intricate artwork and an abundance of fine details.

Unlike the card boxes, however, when we tested cold foil on the card faces, we found that it dulled the colours and obscured much of the fine detail. So we've decided against offering a cold foil version for the card faces in this project.

The card designs come in two color themes — white and pink — and the same goes for the other cards we'll introduce later. The white theme leans more classic, while the pink one feels softer and more comforting.

Court Cards

Bubu is quite the cosplay fan — always having fun dressing up in all sorts of costumes.

The face cards adopt a classic symmetrical design, with Bubu dressed in a variety of lavish outfits — giving him the ultimate cosplay experience.

Card Back

The card back design is a playful mosaic of countless Bubu's, each striking a different pose and wearing a unique expression — a delightful showcase of Bubu's many moods.
