What is Little Companion?

Little Companion is a cosy solo journaling roleplaying game where you and your very own companion explore the whimsical village of Elderbell Hollow.

Using dice, simple prompts and a little imagination, you'll meet curious characters, help your neighbours and create stories that are uniquely yours. You decide what happens next and write your adventures in a notebook, creating your own little story as you play.

Your companion isn't just along for the ride! They have their own feelings, personality and quirks that help shape your adventures together.

No combat. No complicated rules. No group required.

Just you, your companion and a little imagination.

How to Play!

All you need is a notebook, a pen, a few dice (d8, d10, d12 and d20) and your imagination!

No previous roleplaying experience needed. Just follow the prompts, roll the dice and see where your adventure takes you.

Every location has its own residents, discoveries and little adventures. Whether you're lending a helping hand or simply seeing where the day takes you, there's always something new around the corner.

Every corner has a story waiting to be told.

Elderbell Hollow is home to 20 curious residents, each with their own personality, stories and little problems that could use a helping hand.

Perhaps Mrs Crumb needs some assistance at her bakery, or Lumi Wren has encountered something unusual in Moonbell Meadow.

Every resident has their own table of adventures and tasks, so you never quite know who you'll meet or what the day might bring!

A Little Extra Magic

A little game, made with a lot of love 

Hello! We're Claire and Eli, two independent creators based in Scotland, bringing the whimsical world of Elderbell Hollow to life.

Little Companion is a passion project we've been creating alongside our full-time jobs, combining our love of storytelling, illustration and tabletop games.

Claire is the creator and writer behind Little Companion, dreaming up the adventures and little moments that make Elderbell Hollow feel alive. Eli is the illustrator, bringing the village and its wonderful residents to life through his artwork.

The inspiration behind Little Companion

Little Companion was inspired by a very special border collie named Meg.

For over 12 years, Meg was Claire's adventure buddy, constant companion and best friend. Whether exploring somewhere new or simply enjoying the everyday moments together, she was always part of the story.

When Claire began exploring solo journaling RPGs, she wanted to create something where your companion mattered just as much as you did. Not simply someone following along, but a character with their own feelings, personality and place in the adventure.

And so, Little Companion was born.

While Meg is no longer with us, a little piece of her lives on in every adventure through Elderbell Hollow.

Bringing Little Companion to Life

Little Companion has been a labour of love, and we're so excited to take the next step towards bringing it into the world!

The game has been written and playtested, and we've been working on the illustrations, layout and physical format to create a book that's as lovely to use as it is to look at.

With your support, we'll be able to turn our little project into a professionally printed book, ready for adventures in Elderbell Hollow.

The Physical Edition

Our planned physical edition features an A5 wire-bound format, designed to be easy to handle and reference while you play.

Each Kickstarter copy will be hand-numbered, with a quick reference bookmark and exclusive character stickers included.

The physical edition also includes the digital PDF, so you can take your adventures wherever you go!

Where are we now?

We've been developing and testing Little Companion, refining the rules and preparing the book for print.

We're currently finalising the illustrations, layout and production details. Once the campaign is complete, we'll finish preparing the files, arrange printing and begin getting rewards ready for our backers.

Early Access to Elderbell Hollow

We don't want you to have to wait until August to begin your adventures!

Our plan is to share an early-access, playable PDF with backers in April 2027, giving you a chance to explore Elderbell Hollow while we put the finishing touches on the final edition.

The completed PDF, including the final illustrations and layout, is planned for August 2027.

Shipping & Delivery

Digital rewards: Available worldwide, with no shipping charges.

Physical rewards: Available to UK backers only. Shipping will be charged separately after the Kickstarter campaign, with estimated costs shared before pledging.

Our estimated delivery date for the finished edition is August 2027.
