Shadows over Sommerlund
This is an Add-on that needs to be added to your pledge!

Shadows over Sommerlund is a three part campaign consisting of three adventure write by Michael Petersén and Gunilla Jonsson. Two of Swedens most published writers. The are behind Kult the RPG and Mutant RPG and many more gaming books.

They are creating a three-part campaign that will introduce Magnamund to new heroes.

We start in Sommerlund, the realm where the solo adventures of Lone Wolf will take place fifty years later. However, it is not in the Kai monastery that we begin our adventure, but in the large city of Holmgard, where adventurers come from all corners of the world.

Something is rotten in Holmgard, something rooted in Magnamund's most ancient past. The city and its surroundings are presented as an open sandbox, also useful for your own digressions and adventures.

From there the campaign goes out into the vast world of Magnamund, where the solo adventure has touched on widely different places - from the polar expanses of the north to the deserts of the south. We bring the characters both to new places and ones we recognize from the solo adventures. In each sub-adventure, an adventure location is described that we hope will attract you to create your own adventures when the campaign is finished.

Freeway Warrior Bundle (4 books)
Joe Dever’s Freeway Warrior is a Game Book series of four post apocalyptic adventures, where the mood is somewhere between Mad Max and John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. In the Game Books, you take on the role of Cal Phoenix, and your mission is to help a group of survivors on an exodus from Texas, where food is running low, to California which is believed to have made it through the nuclear winter in better shape. You will face a lot of challenges along the way, not the least from the terrorist clans with ties to the organization who triggered the nuclear disaster. The small colony has to go west in order to survive, crossing the post apocalyptic wasteland of chaos och criminal gangs.

Text version

Lone Wolf—Adventures in Magnamund

Now Lone Wolf is coming to Free League Publishing’s role-playing game Dragonbane!

When you support this project, you can get two books—a rulebook with information about the characters, creatures, and setting of the Lone Wolf saga and a book with exciting adventures set in the fantastic world of Magnamund, created by Joe Dever.

The two books will be full of information about the world of Lone Wolf, about the races, professions, spells, and monsters as well as new rules to bring your characters and adventures to life. A number of adventures are also included to take your campaigns from beginner to epic!

Two hardcover books for role-playing adventures in Magnamund

The goal of this Kickstarter is to create two hardcover roleplaying books with rules for the Dragonbane roleplaying game. Drawing inspiration from the solo gamebook adventures of Lone Wolf, the books offered in this campaign are expansions for playing Dragonbane with friends the Magnamund way.

The deluxe editions

Here is how the deluxe versions of the books will differ from the standard versions:

  • Numbered.
  • High quality embossed faux leather cover with a tassel bookmark.
  • Signed by Ben Devere, Joe Dever’s son and the one who now carries on his father’s legacy.
  • A unique bookmark with an original drawing by Lukas Thelin. The bookmark shows a classic character from the books. This bookmark will be exclusive to every backer of the deluxe editions.
  • Special thanks in the books (both basic and deluxe editions) to everyone who backed the deluxe editions.

A great deal of the writing is finished

In this project we already have 80% of the text written. The big job is adapting the material to work with Dragonbane and creating rules for new professions, heroic abilities, and more.

So we have a lot of material to go through and we plan for the books to be 256 pages each, i.e. a 256 page world book and a 256 page adventure book.

Hopefully this will be enough for us to include everything we want in the books. In total, there will be 512 pages of magnificent material for your Magnamund adventures if you choose to back both books.

Extra tools for gamemasters

We will also be creating two compilation PDFs, one with the non-player characters from the adventures and one with the monsters from the campaign book.

Our goal is to make printer-friendly tools for the gamemaster. This will let them print out, for example, a monster and use it at the table to check off Endurance or Willpower points, or have non-player characters printed out to be able to scribble notes on how the characters interact with them.

Everyone who backs the adventure book (print or PDF) will get the non-player character PDF and everyone who backs the campaign book (print or PDF) will get the monsters PDF.

These special companion PDFs will only be made available to those who back this campaign and select one or both books.

An expansion for Free League’s Dragonbane

Please note that Lone Wolf – Adventures in Magnamund is not a standalone RPG. Getting the most out of these books requires you to use the Dragonbane rules, available  from the Free League. A free Quick Start PDF is available on their website.

What is Lone Wolf—Adventures in Magnamund?

Åskfågeln has begun the work of bringing together Lone Wolf with the role-playing game Dragonbane. We’re calling the result Lone Wolf—Adventures in Magnamund.

Our goal is to create two books that allow game masters and players to discover Magnamund and play adventures set in the fantastic world of Joe Dever. But we will not stop there; we also want the books to be usable by everyone who plays Dragonbane, even if they don't want to use Magnamund as the game world.

Fria Ligan’s third-party licence enables Åskfågeln to adapt Magnamund to Sweden’s most popular role-playing game. This version will replace the existing Swedish Lone Wolf RPG (Ensamma Vargen) and will be a major expansion compared to the current game.

One of the biggest challenges with the project is making a selection among existing texts. Joe Dever left behind a veritable dragon’s hoard of information about Magnamund and it is difficult, perhaps impossible, to fit it all into one or even two books. In addition, the substantial material already extant in Ensamma Vargen—written by Tove Gillbring and August Hahn—has already laid the groundwork for this effort.

All texts will be reviewed and kin, professions, heroic abilities, spells, monsters and not least Kai disciplines will get new rules that work with Dragonbane.

Lukas Thelin has already drawn many fantastic pictures and will contribute new work throughout this project.

Our goal is to present an overview of important parts of Magnamund that can provide additional options for game masters who want to place their adventures in a finished world, while all the new rules should be usable in any campaign world. Whether you're playing in Magnamund, the Misty Vale or one of the other exciting worlds of Dragonbane, we want you to find plenty of material to make your adventures even more exciting.

Tove’s Last Big Project

Although Tove Gillbring is no longer with us, this is a project she worked on for a long time. Together with Anders Gillbring and an international team of writers, she completed a comprehensive expansion for the role-playing game Lone Wolf. More professions, more abilities and lots of information about Magnamund were developed by Tove and Anders and illustrated by Lukas Thelin. The idea was to release the expansion Lone Wolf Expert. That would turn out not to happen, when Tove Gillbring left us in the spring of 2022. Her last major project was unfinished.

Now it will become a reality.

Preliminary table of contents for the campaign book

The majority of the material in the campaign book is new and already ready, and we are sitting down with a huge pile of texts in front of us!

The general table of contents below is the preliminary one we are currently working on. Content is subject to change during development of the books, so nothing found in the preliminary table of contents is guaranteed to be included directly, but it all forms the basis for what our new book will be!

In addition, there will be heroic abilities, secondary skills, and schools of magic, where we have tons of ideas but have not yet decided exactly what to include.

  • Introduction
  • Magnamund—Lands of Adventure
  • Heroes of Magnamund
  • Create your own hero in Magnamund
  • New playable kin
  • New professions
  • Hero Abilities or Secondary Skills
  • Schools of magic
  • Kai disciplines
  • Equipment of all kinds
  • Monsters and opponents
  • Strengths & weaknesses
  • Rules for dispensing Inspiration and handling Epiphanies
  • Game master tips

Preliminary table of contents for the adventure book

In the adventure book, we collect seven adventures for Lone Wolf—Adventures in Magnamund. Originally written for the Lone Wolf role-playing game Ensamma Vargen, they will now receive a major overhaul and update to work with Dragonbane.

The adventure book also contains suggestions for how the game master can start a brand new campaign and several adventure seeds you can use when the finished adventures are over.

  • Ashes, Ashes (Shadow over Torseth)
  • We All Fall Down
  • The Merchant's Task
  • Wrath of the Slave-Lord
  • Pieces of the Past
  • The Fires of Fehmarn
  • The Gilt Trip
  • Campaign introductions
  • Adventure seeds

We will charge the shipping costs after the Kickstarter campaign ends, based on the actual costs incurred to ship the products you selected. This will be handled in our Pledge Manager.

Who are the people behind Lone Wolf—Adventures in Magnamund?

This project comes from Åskfågeln, which is known as the publisher of the role-playing magazine Fenix, the Swedish solo adventures of Lone Wolf, the role-playing game Western and much more.

The publisher has also previously published its own role-playing game about Lone Wolf, and through this established a strong relationship with Ben Devere, who now owns the licence and carries on his father's legacy. But there are more people who are adding their talents to this project.

Anders Gillbring
Anders is the owner of the Åskfågeln. In this project, Anders acts as producer, publisher and creative director. Anders, together with his wife Tove, has published Lone Wolf in Sweden both as a solo adventure and a role-playing game. Anders and Tove have also published the role-playing game Western IV and the gaming magazine Fenix.

Lukas Thelin
Lukas is an in-house illustrator at Åskfågeln and has illustrated Western IV, Lone Wolf, and Freeway Warrior. He also contributes to every issue of the gaming magazine Fenix. Has long-term experience of working with the publisher's titles.

Emilie Ihre
Emilie is a happy and committed designer by profession. She is a co-owner of the Eloso publishing house, where she enthusiastically does graphical design for the Swedish edition of Call of Cthulhu. She just finished the book Lund—den förbjudna kunskapens stad. She is also the editor of the Lone Wolf product line at Åskfågeln, both in regards to content and design.

Dan Algstrand
Dan is usually jokingly described as the person who layouts all Swedish role-playing game products. That's only partially true, as books are actually published that he didn't have a hand in. However, his name appears in almost every book from the Free League and he is deeply involved in layout material for new Dragonbane, both for Fenix and Fria Ligan’s official products.

In this project, Dan contributes, among other things, with design and layout.

Magnus Seter
Magnus has written official Dragonbane material for Target Games, RiotMinds and Free League. He is perhaps best known for his old adventures in Sinkadus and for Riotmind’s version of Dragonbane, but has also written a lot of material for the latest version that has been published in the role-playing magazine Fenix, including new monsters and new rules. His last major assignment was to contribute to Free League's official collection of monsters, aptly called the Bestiary.

In this project Magnus contributes, among other things, new rules and monsters.

Gunilla Jonsson and Michael Petersén
Gunilla and Michael are behind the role-playing games Mutant and Kult. Since the dawn of time they have written adventures and rules for Dragonbane. They have also worked on many different role-playing games, most recently the Swedish version of Call of Cthulhu.

In this project, the pair contributes an adventure campaign in three parts.

August Hahn
August’s involvement with Lone Wolf is a long one, dating back to his writing the first Lone Wolf Roleplaying Game in 2008 and his working with Joe Dever and Holmgard Press on virtually every other project since then. His work on several major IPs (Judge Dredd, Western, Babylon 5, Conan, Starship Troopers, D&D, Star Wars, and many others) has established him as a go-to author for lore-accurate RPGs that are also full of personality, easy to read, and fun to play!
