Introduction

Lords of the Manor is a mid-weight worker placement and tableau-building game for 2 to 4 players, playing in 30 minutes per player. Over four years of four seasons each, you'll construct buildings, hire workers, harvest food and scheme against your rivals, all while the fate deck decides whether the seasons favour your estate or fortune turns against you.

How to Play

Each season, you send your workers out to take actions. Expand your estate by playing estate cards from your hand or the common market. Research and explore to find the cards you need. Scavenge for resources and seize the starting player token. Or spend resources on intrigue cards to disrupt your opponents' plans.

Every building you play adds to your tableau, and many open up new worker placement spots of their own, letting you chain production engines that grow stronger every year. Smaller buildings can later be upgraded into larger versions at a discount, and you keep the victory points from both. A humble cliffside farm today becomes a sprawling large farm tomorrow.

But your estate runs on food. Every harvest, your workers must eat, and the extra hands you hired are hungrier than the ones you started with. Fail to feed them and you'll take begging tokens worth negative points at game's end. And from year two onward, ill fortune enters the fate deck. Plague, and worse, can strike at any season.

After four years, the player with the most victory points from cards, coins and clever play claims victory.

Your estate fills up with cards you've constructed: production buildings that pump out resources, craftsmen that quietly turn raw goods into coins, and unique cards that score points, grant passives, or tax your rivals every time they produce.

Every turn, you place one of your workers. Send them onto your own estate to produce resources, build new cards, or trigger the abilities you've already constructed. Send them into the shared market to grab a card you need before a rival does. Send them to research and cycle what's available in that same shared market.

Between every season, a fate card is drawn. Sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes good fortune lifts the whole table. And sometimes, ill fortune lands and everyone has to scramble. That uncertainty is what keeps the game alive. The best-laid engine in the kingdom still has to survive a cruel twist of fate.

Then there's intrigue cards. Held in your hand, played at the most advantageous moment for you, or the worst possible moment for someone else. The kind of move that makes a friend stare at you across the table and say, "really?"

Each year ends with a harvest, where every worker you've hired needs feeding. Hire too many and you're scrambling to keep them fed. Hire too few and you're outpaced. The pressure to balance growth and survival is on every turn.

At the end of the fourth year, count the number of coins you own and the number of points in on the cards in your estate. Add any family bonus and take away points for begging tokens. The player with the most points wins.

Replayability

No two games of Lords of the Manor play the same. The family you draw shapes your strategy from the first season. The market deals a different spread of cards every game, and refreshes every year, so the engine you build this time may not even be possible next time. Intrigue cards in your opponents' hands keep you guessing, and the fate deck brings fortune or misfortune no one saw coming.

It's the kind of game where you finish, look at the table, and immediately want to play again.

Quality Components

Our art

The world of Lords of the Manor is brought to life by artist Brian and the team at studio S3.2D, whose work gives every card its own character, from humble sawmills and cliffside farms to the intrigues unfolding behind manor walls. Across more than 100 cards, the goal was a consistent, lived-in medieval world where every building feels like part of the same estate.

A note on our process: Early concept illustrations were generated using AI during the prototype stage. Every illustration in the final game has been substantially overpainted and reworked by hand by Brian and the team, including repainting, composition changes, stylistic unification, and detail work.
