Magika Nostalgika: Catalog of Magic Items

MAGIKA NOSTALGIKA!

Throughout history, mages have hidden their magical secrets in mundane objects, from carvings to clothing... even humble playthings.

Now, you can discover the arcane origins of your favorite childhood toys within the pages of the Magika Nostalgika!

Inspired by popular toys of the 90s and the wish-inducing catalogs that contained them, Magika Nostalgika is a zine of magic items for D&D 5e. In this 5.5" x 8.5", full-color, 12-page (now 20-page w/ stretch goals) TTRPG zine, you'll find 20+ new magic items like:

• Bonk-It
• Soaker Supreme
• Yeoman’s Oscillating Yewen Orbicular (Y.O.Y.O.)
• PlayWell Bricks
• Figures of Action
• And More!

Magic items are built for 5e but should be easily convertible to fit your favorite system!

REWARD TIERS

Tier 0: Grandma's Tier

In honor of my late Grandma Mazie, a fellow artist who always supported my work despite admittedly not understanding much of it, this tier is for any friends & family who know nothing about RPGs or the toys being referenced, but would still like to support the project. Any amount is welcome here.

Tier 1: The PDF ($5)

Backers at this level receive a DIGITAL copy of the Magika Nostalgika zine in PDF form, plus any unlocked digital stretch goals!

Tier 2: The Zine ($10)

Backers at this level receive a copy of the Magika Nostalgika zine in both PHYSICAL and DIGITAL forms, plus all unlocked stretch goals!

Tier 3: The Zundle ($25)

AKA the Zine Bundle. Backers at this tier receive everything in Tier 2, plus one physical copy each of my previous zines College of the Third Wave and Agents of the Gilded Palm.

Tiers 4 & 5: The Retailer Bundle ($30 / $60)

These tiers are reserved for gaming shops and other related retailers (schools & community organizers also welcome). You will receive 5-10 physical copies of the zine at wholesale pricing ($6 each, MSRP $12). Must provide proof of shop ownership upon making your pledge.

Tier 6: The Feature ($125)

Backers at this level receive all of the rewards from Tier 3, as well as the opportunity to have one of their own TTRPG characters featured as a model in the catalog!

You get to decide what magic item they will be modeling and work with me to develop the character's look. Plus, you'll get a high-res file of the final illustration for personal use.

Note: Item choices will be offered in the order pledges are made (first come, first served). Selections will be made once the campaign has ended.

WHO IS THIS GUY?

My name is Matthew Sargent. I'm a professional illustrator, TTRPG player, and 90's kid from Chicago, IL. I am the creator of the ska-inspired bard subclass zine College of the Third Wave, the Appendix N Jam adventure Agents of the Gilded Palm, and the Book of Coloring series of fantasy coloring books.

My work can be found in numerous TTRPG publications, including DarkSpace, Denizens of the Blood Sands, the Sunrise Limited, the Spelljammer's Cookbook, Three Curses for Sister Saren, Red City: Demiplane of Dread, and the We Are Grung series.

My achievements include ranking #4 for Agents of the Gilded Palm in the 2025 Appendix N Jam, serving as a Special Guest at PAGE 3, and successfully funding College of the Third Wave over 800% on Kickstarter in 2024.
