Make100:Handmade Dice with Origami Dragons Tea Party Edition

I have always been obsessed with origami, specifically folding little dragons. Over the years I have folded hundreds of these little guys. As a dice maker, it only made sense to combine the things that I love. With some trial and error I figured out how small I could push my dragon folding skills until they could successfully be cast inside dice. And so origami dragon dice were born. The perfect addition to any dice hoard to protect all those shiny math rocks!

Dice pledge levels are split between Origami Dragon D20s, and Origami Dragon D6s, and 7 piece Full Sets. Additional D20s or D6s can be added to any pledge via Add Ons at any time to create a custom package. With the ever growing possibilities, some new fun items have made their way onto the list this year like origami dragon jewellery and tea party themed goodies.

Create your own custom origami dragon die. Choose your dragon colour, number ink colour, and glitter. Choices will be made during the backer survey phase. Each die pledged for [including add-ons] will be able to be independently customized. Get some matching dice or a few different colour combos, it's up to you!

All dice are created from my custom handmade sharp edge masters with a font of my own creation, so they will stand out in any collection or at any game table. All dice are perfectly playable for any boardgame or tabletop game. 

Due to the balanced nature of the dice geometry and the very light nature of each dragon [weighing less than a gram], and the process of casting under pressure to eliminate the presence of air bubbles, the inclusion of origami suspended inside the resin does not affect balance or the ability to roll in any meaningful way. 

All D20s will be cast from my standard sized D20 masters[pictured below] with my custom created font with star indicators on the '6' and '9' faces to indicate orientation. 

All D20s including those added with the Add-On ability will be given the choice of dragon colour/ink combo in the backer survey. Choose the dragons that suit your personality the best. 

These D6s might be a little different than you may be used to. They are Rhombic D6s! A shape based on diamond shaped faces. This shape creates a very aesthetically pleasing die that fits in more pleasingly with full polyhedral sets, and allows for a greater viewing window of inclusions. And Rhombic D6s roll just as well as standard cube D6s, so they are playable.

The best angle to view the Origami Dragons from in these D6s is the '3' face. 

All D6s including those added with the Add-On ability will be given the choice of dragon colour/ink combo in the backer survey. Choose the dragons that suit your personality the best. 

Due the labour intensive nature, full sets will be limited in nature. Like the single D20s and D6s each set will have the option to choose dragon colour, number ink colour, and glitter.  However, the entire set will have the same glitter, dragon colour and ink  applied to all 7 dice create a matching set.  Or you may choose from 2 Rainbow options shown bellow. 

Full sets will be cast using my custom masters which feature a standard D20, Rhombic D12, standard D10 and D%, standard D8, Rhombic D6, and Crystal D4.

The glitters are superfine, and suspend well within the dice while not obscuring the dragons themselves. But, fear not if you don't want glitter that is an option, too!

The Blue Crystal Atelier Dragons come from all sorts of habitats. These dragons are celebrating! Join them for a tea party. 

This tray is large enough to hold several of your prized dice at once or small jewelry for display. A perfect addition for keeping your favourite dice close at hand during games or as a display piece. 

Featuring a unique resin cast dragon in a geometric origami inspired style, handmade faux sugar cubes, and a hand poured layer of shimmering resin to provide a protective layer to prevent scratched dice and the appearance of tea in the cup. All dice guardians will be slightly unique in that all the decorations are hand placed, and each cup will be unique meaning no two will be the same. 

Choose the colour of your dragon and main motif colour for your cup. The 'tea' of the cup can be either matched to your dragon or be tea coloured. As the cups are repurposed I cannot guarantee exact patterns, just the main colour within the pattern [pink as shown above]. So your cup will be a slight surprise. 

Now your dice will always be safe from other dragons trying to pilfer your hoard with this little guy standing guard. 

Upon reaching these stretch goals, dragon colours and cup main colour options will be unlocked as choices during the Backer Survey at the end of the campaign.

These little dragons are just too cute not to take everywhere with you. Now you can wear them. All of the dragons are made out of the same origami paper as the dice dragons, and coated in resin to give them a durable and water resistant finish. They won't get crushed or ruined. The dragons come in 2 varieties: standard earrings, and over the ear cuffs for those who do not have piercings or have extra sensitive ears. 

The origami dragon earrings are made with standard style hooks, and feature a 2 inch dangle. Ear hooks are made from hypoallergenic stainless steel.

Choose Your Own Custom Rainbow Set: Want a little more control over your multi-coloured set, or don't want 7 colours? This is the option for you. Choose up to 7 of the colours between the metallic and iridescent dragon options for your set. Even choose multiple dragons in just a few colours. Due to added complexity, placement of the chosen colours within the set will be random. I cannot guarantee a specific colour in a specific dice.

Mystery Dice: Can't decide on what you want for your full set or single dice? Or just want something completely unique? When unlocked, this option will let me pick your dice options. Don't like certain colours? No problem, you will be able to specify glitter/number ink/dragon colours that you don't want me to use to avoid unwanted colours. Tell me your favourite colour and I'll cook something up. With this option I will also use surprise number inks/dragons/glitters that aren't otherwise available options for a unique set or single.

Threader style earrings offer a customizable dangle length with a classic elegant look.

When the above stretch goals are unlocked this will be revealed. 

To pledge, select a pledge level from the 'Rewards' at the side. Additional items can be added via the available add-ons. These can be added at initial pledge or later. There will also be an opportunity to purchase remaining quantities during the survey phase as well.

If you would like to increase your pledge or add additional items beyond what you had initially pledged for before the conclusion of the campaign, you will have to visit the project page and click the “Manage your pledge” button that appears next to your pledge amount.  Here you can manage your pledge.

When the campaign is funded and complete, you will receive a survey to indicate your choice of dice options [dragon colour], as well as allow for the option of any additional add-on purchases. This survey will be open for three weeks, so please fill it out as soon as possible.

After the survey period is complete, materials will be ordered and all dice will be handcrafted by me.

According to my timeline, the rewards will be ready to ship by mid to end July. I will be fulfilling  this Kickstarter using a pledge manager.

In addition to the available quantity of each reward tier, a number of additional Dragon D20s and Dragon D6s will be available as add-ons. These can be added during your initial pledge or to your pledge at any time. More dragon colours will become available unlocked. Additional dice will also be available during the survey phase for purchase.

Shipping will be charged during the Pledge Manager/ Backer Survey phase to provide accurate shipping costs for all pledges.  Rewards will be shipped using upgraded tracked methods to best ensure the best security and peace of mind for every backer.

Presently all pledges are planned to be shipped via Canada Post with upgraded tracked shipping for security and piece of mind. Due to the size of the dice, they are not eligible for untracked shipping within Canada, so please keep this in mind when pledging. 

Duties and taxes: Please be aware of your country's laws when ordering from Canada. If you are in the EU or the UK you'll probably have to pay VAT on your order, and other destinations such as the US may require duties and taxes.
