What is Perdition?

Page torn from an old book with a portrait of an elegant young lady in a dark lacy early 20th century gown

Perdition is a Southern Gothic adventure in which the party must sail down the River Styx to take on Asmodeus, Archduke of Hell. It is a Dungeons and Dragons module (compatible with 5e and 5.5e) for players levels 16 through 20. It is heavily inspired by the tone, aesthetics, and stories of the movies O Brother Where Art Thou? and Sinners, as well as the musical Hadestown.

Perdition consists of two books: a player's guide with setting-specific information to help players during character creation, and a module book for dungeon masters to lead their players on the adventure.

On tablet screens, two book covers are displayed. "Perdition: A Southern Gothic Inferno" shows an authoritative man in an old-fashioned gentleman's outfit, seated in a leather armchair like a throne. The "Perdition Player's Guide" depicts a young woman with long hair flying as she gallops on horseback.

What makes Perdition unique?

Want to figure out if Perdition is the right adventure for you and your party? Here are some aspects of this module that we are especially excited about:

  • Dynamic high-level combat. The fights in this game are more than just hit points. With secondary objectives, shifting battlefields, and unique enemies, expect to have your Tier 4 abilities stretched to their limits.
  • Non-linear exploration. Parties can explore areas and complete objectives in different orders, or skip some of them entirely, leading to different relationships, consequences, and outcomes.
  • Meaningful moral dilemmas. While righteous paladins and wicked warlocks may have equal reason to go after Asmodeus, this story is rife with opportunities to confront difficult choices that have a lasting impact on later parts of the story.
  • Southern Gothic vibes. All settings, characters, and scenarios are full of that dark, Southern flavor to enable you to tell your own stories of tyranny, loss, corruption, evil, and redemption.

What Players are Saying

Page torn from an old book with a Medieval illustration of a demon eating and tormenting souls

Perdition excites me, not just because it's a module for high-level play, but because of how intimate the storytelling is. It is a refreshing look at high-level play, stripping away the classic demi-god status of player characters and boldly saying, "You are still deeply mortal."

One of my favorite campaigns is Wild Beyond the Witchlight, strictly because of the Lost Items mechanic that weaves your character into the story. Perdition has a similar in: your Lost Soul. Every player is fundamentally broken and it is reflected in the mechanics of the game. Every player's story will be steeped in regret from the moment go.

-Dylan McCollum, Total Party Skill and Hero Club

Obsessed with the Missing Soul and the Corruption point system, and the Southern Gothic roleplay potential is endless and exciting.

-Hayley, playtester

Finally a southern gothic campaign setting to scratch the gritty, bleak vibes I’ve been waiting for. The custom subclasses are perfect for high-level play and are endlessly exciting. The School of Science Wizard is so inventive and incentivizes creative and strategic play.

Stretch Goals

Stretch Goals. A torn page with a photo of a determined woman with textured grey hair, a cowpoke hat, and a lasso slung over her shoulder.
""

Our funding goal covers the absolute bare minimum basics of what it will take to get this project published. However, we want to make this module as exciting and high-quality as possible.

Additional funds could potentially allow us to include:

  • More art
  • More maps
  • More adventures
  • A campaign soundtrack

Here are the stretch goals we are trying to unlock:

  • $500 - New Artificer subclass (Fiber Artist) UNLOCKED!
  • $750 - New species option (Smoke Sop) UNLOCKED!
  • $1000 - Ten new spells
  • $1250 - Five new Epic Boons
  • $1500 - Five new magic items

We would love to unlock even more as the campaign goes on, so keep sharing and promoting the campaign so more folks can join in on the fun!

Fulfillment Timeline

Fulfillment Timeline. A torn page with a photo of a man with an old-fashioned suit, hat, and sunglasses handling chips at a poker table.

We intend to fulfill all rewards by July 2027. We are hoping to have the Player's Guide and the core Campaign Book released earlier than that, but this timeframe accounts for any potential delays in artwork, format conversion, and playtesting.

That being said, all standard rewards are digital, so once they are done, we can get them sent to you in a heartbeat!

Fulfilled by Drive-Thru RPG

All digital files will be fulfilled via Drive-Thru RPG. This will allow you to access your materials via your RPG library, download the files whenever you want, and receive updates and discounts on these files and other products from our store in the future.

Who are we?

Who are we? Torn page with a photo of a woman with loose, coily hair, sunglasses, a loose button-up shirt, dark slacks, and leather gloves, dangling a pair of handcuffs.

We are the Lich Queens. We have been playing D&D actual play games together for the past two years, and have been looking forward to publishing our first campaign module. This project arose out of our shared desire to make the kind of games we want to play ourselves, and we have enjoyed every step of the process so far!

We will be playing through Perdition ourselves on our Twitch channel and YouTube channel at @Lich_Queens. The streamed campaign is scheduled to premiere later this fall.

A Twitch stream showing K.J. the Dungeon Master (looking mischievous) and five femme-presenting players (looking shocked), along with a virtual battle map and roll log, all in a rugged, Viking-themed aesthetic

Commitment to Accessibility

Commitment to Accessibility. A torn page has a faded photo of two men (both in old-fashioned work clothes, suspenders, and hats), waist-deep in water, using shovels to chip away at a rock face.

We are committed to keeping our content inclusive specifically for players with disabilities. All materials published will be built and reviewed for conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and will follow all best practices to the best of our abilities. By creating content that meets the WCAG accessibility standard, you will be able to have more control over how you view and interact with Perdition.

For you, this includes:

  • Files in alternate formats, including ePub and printer-friendly PDF
  • An additional HTML format that allows you to navigate the content in a browser, like any accessible web page
  • Meaningful alternative text and descriptions for all images, handouts, and maps
  • Colorblind-friendly visuals

We are always striving to improve our accessibility practices, and would love to hear comments and suggestions on how we can continue to improve.

No AI: Commitment to Real Artists

Commitment to Real Artists. A torn page shows a black-and-white photo of a singing, guitar-playing man with long, loose locs and a light, old-fashioned hat.
""

We are not using artificial intelligence (AI) for any part of our creative process for this project. All writing, artwork, maps, and graphics will be designed and created by real artists with no AI involvement.

One of the advantages of the setting of Perdition is that it allows us to source existing photos and illustrations and make smaller edits to them, rather than creating all of the art from scratch. This is the main way that we are able to keep our budget low while still avoiding any AI tools. All images are sourced from and edited by actual human artists, photographers, and designers.
