« Periodic Pipes » est un jeu de société dans lequel les joueurs évoluent le long d’un parcours composé d’éléments du tableau périodique. À chaque tour, un joueur lance deux dés et avance du nombre de cases correspondant pour atterrir sur un élément. Il pioche ensuite une carte indiquant une propriété pouvant être déterminée à partir du tableau périodique. S'il identifie correctement cette propriété pour son élément, il reste en place. Dans le cas contraire, il doit revenir au dernier gaz noble qu'il a dépassé. Des cartes « Chem Battle » sont mélangées au paquet. Lorsqu'une de ces cartes est piochée, tous les joueurs participent à un défi spécial. Chaque joueur lance les dés pour déterminer un élément : le dé à six faces indique la période (ligne) et le dé à huit faces indique le groupe (colonne). La carte « Chem Battle » précise une propriété élémentaire particulière, et le joueur dont l’élément présente la valeur la plus élevée pour cette propriété remporte la bataille et joue immédiatement un tour supplémentaire. Le premier joueur à atteindre la fin du parcours (le plutonium) remporte la partie.

Gameplay
Players take turns moving along the periodic pipes, determining properties of elements they encounter along the way. The first person to reach Plutonium at the end wins but there are a few challenges along the way.
The Board
Each space on the game board represents a particular atom, starting with Hydrogen and increasing all the way to Plutonium at the end. The Noble Gases are safe spaces that are highlighted in yellow.
The Cards
After landing on an element, players draw a card. Most of the cards have a single property on them. It is up to the player to identify that particular property for the element they landed on. Let's say Joe lands on Carbon and draws a card that says Atomic Mass. Using the included periodic table, Joe would find Carbon and see that the atomic mass is 12.01 amus. Each other player has their own periodic table and will be checking to see if Joe is correct. If he is, then great! If not, he falls back to the last Noble Gas he passed.
Chem Battles
Mixed in with the regular cards are special Chem Battle! cards. Drawing one of these triggers a Chem Battle! where everyone participates. Each player rolls each die and finds the corresponding element on the periodic table. The 6-sided die (d6) is the period (row), and the 8-sided die (d8) is the group (column). Whoever gets the highest gets to move again.
