Pro Patria Mori: High Seas

Pro Patria Mori: High Seas is a standalone expansion to the Zinequest 2021 game Pro Patria Mori, bringing the WW1 tabletop experience out to sea. A one-shot experience designed for 1-4 players, High Seas sets players aboard a u-boat in the final years of the war. 

Inspired by works like A Farewell to Arms and Das Boot, High Seas explores the terrors and hopelessness of war from the intimate experiences of sailors in a 3 hour narrative. 

We take historical accuracy seriously and try our best to stay true to the events and technologies of the past, gameplay permitting. We've enlisted the help of Alexandru Bucur, who is our WW1 consultant for the project.

Pro Patria Mori: High Seas is set in 1918 as the tides of war shift against U-boat crews...

High Seas continues the tradition of bringing to the table public domain artwork created by those who saw the horrors of war firsthand.

The full collection of works are attributed in the book and listed below: 

High Seas uses the original Pro Patria Mori mechanics with some minor modifications and sizeable additions. 

• Settings Rolls have been omitted focusing on encounters out at sea. 
• U-boat Sheet provides a play surface with additional modifiers and extra dice when using weapons. Flooding, food rations, O2, and target ranging need to be managed.

• Fog of War identification system where players need to identify a target whether they are friend or foe before engaging. Includes surface vessel silhouettes with defence and attack stats from the period. 
• New Radio Call mechanic on Day 3 of operations that confirms engaged targets with the crew facing the consequences. 

Players are expected to manage their U-boat during encounters. From fighting fires, sealing punctures, launching torpedoes, and keep the crew fed; life out in the cold Atlantic is one of fear and misery. 

Submerge to escape a deadly enemy, and hold tight and hope the depth charges do not come too close...
