Welcome to Rook & Ruin!
Can you outwit a dungeon that thinks like a grandmaster? Enter a labyrinth of crumbling halls and rogue chess pieces, where every single move could be your last. In this purely solo Print & Play adventure, you are a lone hero King chess piece navigating a deadly, grid-based puzzle with only your wits to guide you.
Your actions are drawn from an ever-growing Arsenal of Echoes — powerful, chess-like movements. Execute a Knight's Gambit to bypass a guard, a Bishop's Path to secure a relic, or a Rook's Charge to clear a corridor. Capture rogue pieces to gather Material, learn new Echoes to add to your Arsenal, and customize your deck of abilities to perfectly suit your strategy.
Featuring multiple unique characters, a clean "vintage chess puzzle" aesthetic, and immense replayability, Rook & Ruin is a deep and strategic puzzle experience that fits on a single sheet of paper.
*You will have the option to either use a deck of cards or emulate your deck by drawing from a table with dice sized D6 - D20. It's deck-building, but you may cut out the cards OR just roll some dice. :)

Pledge overview
I have a vivid childhood memory of quiet weekend mornings, spreading the newspaper out on the floor, searching for that one special section: the weekly chess puzzle. It was a personal ritual, a challenge just for me.
That's the exact feeling I want to bring to you with the Rook & Ruin: Grind to Mastery.
This is my promise: a new, devious chess-like dungeon puzzle delivered to you every single weekend for an entire year. As a creator, I'm committed to delivering. This year, I designed and delivered a completely new thematic map for the Roll4Rum YLA, and this project will receive that same level of dedicated support.
This pledge also includes the Editor and upcoming add-ons. One of them will be a 2-Player Arena mode with at least 2 different maps and some new/reworked actions and cards.
Prepare for a year of tactical challenges. It's going to be an awesome journey.
You will be able to edit the files already laid out for print in A4 and US letter formats. Edit texts, add new images - I can walk you through in a session on Discord, then I'll be available for any questions you may have and help on Discord.
True deckbuilding - the Flowing Arsenal
The "Flowing Arsenal" System
Your player sheet is your deck, your hand, and your discard pile, all represented on a single, elegant table. Here’s how it works:
1. The Draw Pile (The First Column): Your game starts with your character's 6 unique Echoes written in the first column. To "draw" an Echo, you roll your Arsenal Die (a D6 at the start). Let's say you roll a '4'—you've just "drawn" your fourth Echo! Use a pen to reinforce the circle and mark it as drawn.
2. The Hand (Your Prepared Echoes): The drawn Echo is now available in your hand of 3 "Prepared Echoes," ready to be used.
3. The Discard Pile (The Next Column): Once you use an Echo from your hand, you cross it out and write its signature letter (e.g., 'N' for Knight) into the next available space in the second column. This column is now your discard pile, filling up as you play.
4. The "Reshuffle" (The Flow): This is the magic part. Once you've drawn every Echo from Column 1, it's empty. Your "discard pile" in Column 2 automatically becomes your new "draw pile"! You start rolling against this new column, and your discards now flow into Column 3. There's no erasing, no resetting—your game's history flows across the page, creating a permanent record of your gameplay.
5. Acquiring New Echoes: When you learn a new Echo, you write its letter into your current discard pile column. This perfectly captures that classic Dominion feeling of buying a new card and eagerly waiting for your next "shuffle" to draw it.
Why This System is Special
I wanted a system that was both PnP-friendly and strategically deep. The Flowing Arsenal gives you:
- The Full Deck-Building Experience: The cycle of drawing, playing, acquiring new cards, and reshuffling is all here.
- Zero Card Cutting: You can play a deep, evolving campaign with just the game sheet, a pencil, and your dice.
- A Unique Visual Footprint: Watching your Arsenal flow from one column to the next is a visually satisfying way to track your progress through the dungeon.
I'm really happy about this unique solution, and I believe it makes Rook & Ruin a truly special PnP experience.
