Actually, in 2022, I started uploading various campaigns to Kickstarter with the intention of bringing joy to supporters. Financial gain didn't concern me at all, and because of this, I received a lot of criticism from the board game development community, as they thought what I was doing wasn't profitable. I knew this too, but what interested me was being able to do what I love.

Thanks to all of you, by September 2023, I reached the point where it became financially worthwhile to focus exclusively on board games and RPGs, so currently, I am creating content for you in a full-time capacity. In the future, I plan to release 3D models specifically designed for printing. I can start this process within a few months, but I no longer plan to pursue this line alone.

Your support is essential for me to provide better prices, larger quantities, and higher quality for you, and of course, to be able to create in different directions and eventually even form a team behind these processes.

One of my relatively big dreams is to potentially put together a pilot for a small animated film, but this could still be a matter of years. In the end, the essence is that there are ambitions and plans, but your help is essential for them. I believe that supporting smaller creators provides an opportunity to receive truly special products from time to time. While the big ones follow the same template for everything, small creators like me like to take risks and create new things.

First Step: Generating the Base Images
In the first step, approximately 10,000 images are generated using copyright-free and/or paid sources, from which the best ~1,000 images are selected. Most of these are then reworked, merged, or discarded.

Second Step: The Editing Process
During the editing process, the remaining ~1,000 images are manually processed and go through three rounds:

1. Major Modifications
   A significant portion of the map is altered, its appearance changes substantially, and 80% of the errors are corrected.
2. Review and Further Modifications
   Additional errors are identified and fixed, details are added, and the map's appearance is further refined, making it nearly perfect for use in role-playing games.
3. Final Review and Minor Adjustments
   At this stage, although the maps are typically 99% perfect, a final check ensures the highest quality by fixing any remaining minor errors.

Third Step: Adding Grids
Grids and hex grids are added to the maps.

Fourth Step: Upscaling
In the fourth step, the maps are converted into high-resolution versions using industry-leading software on a specially designated high-performance computer. At this stage, an AI system, running on our own machine, further enhances details, sharpens the image, and adds refinements.

Finally, here are some examples of the transformations these images undergo to be effectively used as maps.

In this case, after the correction, the already properly functioning map received additional modifications and extra details, such as snow and other visual enhancements. This map pack was based on an older map pack.
 

🖌️ The Human Element: The Heavy Lifting Behind Our Maps

While our workflow utilizes AI to generate a rough initial framework, we want to be completely transparent: the true heavy lifting of this project relies entirely on extensive, manual human artistry. We do not simply generate and publish.

The raw AI output is merely our starting point. During our rigorous editing phases, these base images undergo a massive transformation. This is where the real work happens. We dive deep into complex photo manipulation, heavy structural editing, and manual digital redrawing. We painstakingly paint over inconsistencies, reconstruct entire streets and buildings, blend in new assets, and manually shape the environment to capture the authentic, gritty vibe of 1969 Hollywood.

This is not just about fixing minor errors. Through our manual labor, up to 60% of the final image is completely altered, redrawn, and reimagined by our hands. It’s a highly labor-intensive process of turning a chaotic generated concept into a visually cohesive, playable masterpiece.

But we don't just want to tell you about the hard work—we want to show you exactly what our creative process looks like.

The visual transformations you see above are only half the story. We are not just graphic artists; we are dedicated TTRPG developers. The massive amount of human effort we pour into this project extends far beyond the images, deep into backend development, coding, and intricate game design.

Here is the significant work happening behind the scenes to bring Hollywood 1969 to life:

Proprietary Development & Custom Scripts: We do not rely on simple, out-of-the-box generators. We actively write our own scripts, continuously work on deep model developments, and build proprietary AI systems in the background to ensure the technology bends to our specific creative vision.

Intricate World-Building & NPC Webs: The soul of a great campaign lies in its lore. We manually design complex relationship networks for our NPCs. Every character is deeply connected to others, and we carefully weave their hidden secrets, motives, and backgrounds into a highly consistent, living universe.

Data-Rich Location Guides: For every single map we finalize, we create a comprehensive Location Guide. We utilize Gemini as an analytical tool to process these areas, but the output is strictly driven by our own unique, hand-crafted parameters. This process translates our world-building into highly playable environments, packed with hidden secrets, lore, and ready-to-play tactical data.

Fueling the TTRPG Experience: As developers and lifelong TTRPG lovers, our mission is to build tools that elevate the game. Every single pledge we receive goes directly back into refining and expanding our proprietary systems, ensuring we can provide the most immersive and high-quality gaming experience possible for the community.

📝 Summary:

Although AI provides significant assistance and a solid foundation, it currently takes two people approximately 160 hours each to complete the product. However, this method allows us to deliver high-quality maps to our supporters at an affordable price.

As seen in the examples, we often go into such detailed corrections that even mirror reflections are adjusted so that objects appear from the correct angle in the mirror. We pay great attention to details, quality, and craftsmanship to ensure that our supporters can acquire these maps at a favorable price.

AI Usage Statement - PDF

Artificial intelligence tools were used during the preparation of the materials in a controlled and lawful manner. The original PDF documents were translated using Google’s paid translation services (Google Flash). The use of the paid version ensured compliance with all applicable legal and licensing requirements.

Following the translation process, the content was reviewed and a new, custom-designed PDF layout was created. The final design, structure, and formatting of the documents were developed independently and do not replicate or reuse the work of third parties.

No copyrighted materials created by other individuals or organizations were used without authorization. All content processing and design work was carried out in accordance with applicable intellectual property laws, and the resulting documents constitute original work created by our team.

The use of AI tools was limited to translation support and did not replace human oversight, editorial decisions, or creative design work.

AI Usage Statement - NPCs

The NPCs, tokens, and portraits were created using the Gemini system in conjunction with our proprietary software. Through this process, we establish relationships between characters based on our own rules, shape narratives, and construct societies. While Gemini is available to the public, our unique system is private; its internal mechanics are a trade secret and will not be discussed openly here.

Furthermore, our work and its foundation are paid services that fully comply with EU, UK, and US legal regulations. Our primary partner for such projects is Google, utilizing their paid, legally compliant services.
