What is Sealed Monstas

Waht is Sealed Monstas? Sealed Monstas is all about forming and Testing Hypotheses The game captures this scientific process through Deck Construction. Deck Construction? Sealed Monstas features deck construction (not deck building). That means you get a selection of cards to choose from, you envision your strategy, then freely craft your deck; no wrangling with card costs or random card rows. While deck construction is a mainstay in collectible card games, it very rarely appears in board games. Sealed Monstas has been designed to offer deck construction using the accesibility of board games! A fully complete game (no randomized card packs). Decks of 14 cards are constructed during play No preparation needed before play. Introductory variant that gets novices constructing their own decks during their very first game.
"Despite the depth, it's very accessible, and I was able to grasp the flow of the turn and start making interesting strategic decisions right away. There is clearly a lot of depth to the game, but I loved that I didn't have to understand much to have a lot of fun with it." - Stefan Alexander, designer of Cubirds

Everyone who backs the project will receive a page of the Sealed Monstas digital art book, filled with details about the design of the Monstas! Sealed Monstas has been created exclusively by 2 Canadians: Jon Bennett created all the illustrations for the game, and basically everything else was realized by Robert Durant. Team

Team. Robert Durant: Design and Development. “I’m the designer and developer of Sealed Monstas (...along with many other roles, though design and development is what I am really passionate about and my professional background). I’m Canadian, as are the other artists I assembled to create Sealed Monstas and this Kickstarter campaign (including illustrators, a voice actor, composer and photographer). I’ve played collectible card games casually for most of my life (Pokemon and Runeterra being the ones I got most into). Hypothesizing new deck concepts and trying them out is what keeps me coming back. Sealed Monstas is my answer to capturing that experience in something that is easy to share with others. Countless rulesets and card designs, as well as years of testing went into ensuring Sealed Monstas is both accessible and provides the compelling moments of deck construction. I think Sealed Monstas provides a unique experience you won’t find in other board games, and I hope you’ll have the chance to enjoy its unique offer." Jonathan Bennett: Illustration. "Hello! I am the primary illustrator for Sealed Monstas. Based in Ontario, I am a French-Canadian artist with a lifelong obsession with fantasy and monsters. I have collaborated with Robert on this project for years, starting with my very first illustrations for it under its original name, Monstatama, during my senior year of high school. Now that I have graduated from college, I am pursuing both 2D illustration and animation. I have always had a fascination with creature design, and it is a joy to bring Robert's descriptions to life. His concepts are oftentimes more scientific or niche, based on real life phenomena and organisms that you rarely see in these kinds of projects, which makes designing them a fun challenge. I especially love working on larger pieces, like cover art, that incorporate multiple monstas together. It gives them a wonderful sense of belonging in a shared world. The more I work on it the more I can feel this universe really take on its own life. I sincerely hope you enjoy the project, as so much care has gone into it!"
