Inspirations
So many great worlds and games inspired us when we created SHIFT. We wanted to be able to play and build these worlds without the baggage that other systems bring to the table.
What worlds are you thinking of creating/adapting? Let us know in the comments or in our Discord!
The Building Blocks of SHIFT: Traits and SHIFT dice!
SHIFT’s innovative Trait and SHIFT Die mechanic is the building block of the whole system. Learn how to create a Trait, and you’ll be designing new content for your SHIFT games right at the table!
- Use Traits to represent your character’s strengths & weaknesses, equipment and vehicles, monsters, allies... anything!
- Use a SHIFT Die (from D4 to D12) to track your likelihood of success. The fewer faces the die has, the better your odds!
- But watch out: rolling the highest number on a SHIFT die means your Trait becomes less reliable!
How to Roll SHIFT Dice
The D20 is Dead, Long Live the D4!
You heard that right, there are NO D20s in SHIFT! Good riddance!
In SHIFT the D4 is the most powerful die, with a 75% chance of rolling a success when rolled... but watch out, roll a 4 and that die will shift down into a D6 the next time you use it!
