Smart LED D20 - Giant WiFi Dice with Gyro & Digital Rolls

The Story so Far

Labulabs is a product design company focused on lighting and interactive products. When the business was started we mainly focused on designer lighting and furniture. During this work the Destiny die was born from a love of games, geometry and the challenge of a more high tech product. 

What is the Destiny die? 

The destiny die is a Smart D20 that hosts a web server on the users WiFi. This means to use the die you dont need to download an app. The die includes the following features:

Color Presets:

The die currently has 7 color presets with more planned. The current presets include: ( add in gifs of each preset ) 

• Rainbow 
• Fire 
• Sparkle 
• Disco 
• Strobe 
• Candlelight 
• Sunset 

The die also has Full Rgb light control and the ability to set the color of not only the full die but the color of individual sides. The rgb control also includes effects which are turned on after a color has been picked. 

Dice Roll 

The Destiny die can be rolled in two different ways:

         1.Gyro roll -

The roll mode lets the user phyically roll the die on a rolling mat or the carpet and the die will respond to the position it is in 3d space. The gyro roll mode has its own effects. These effects include:

• Only Active Face
• Highlight + Base color 
• Pulse Active face 
• Rainbow active face 
• Ripple from Active 
• Active Sparkle ‘
• Color Shift 
• Heartbeat 
• Disco 

        2. RNG Digital roll 

The die will never be perfectly balanced and we know that a balanced die is very important to gameplay. The RNG digital roll gives users a balanced roll on there die and custom control for that roll. The custom control include: 

• Rolling color 
• Result color 
• Rolling effect
• Roll duration 
• Result display duration 
• And auto roll , a continuous roll for display 

Power saving mode -

This mode limits the brightness of the leds and extends the battery life of the device. There is a brightness slider so that the user can pick the capped level. 

How does the control work?

With the die, there is no app download the die generates a Web server that connects to your Wi-Fi. When you first receive your die, you’ll turn it on and connect your phone to the access point the die generates. On your phone it’ll looks something like this: (show pic of WiFi phone screen)

When you connect to this Wi-Fi, your phone will redirect you to a webpage where you will input your Wi-Fi name and password along with a Web address that you can choose the default web address will be something like Labulabs.local 

After you input this information, the access point will go away and your phone will reconnect to your Wi-Fi as well as the dye will connect to your Wi-Fi. Then all you will do is open your web browser, And input the web address that you either picked or used the default. 

The  address should open up to the control panel and will give you full control over the color of the die and its mode. Anyone who is connected to your Wi-Fi address can put this  address into their browser and open up this control panel so a party of six people could all be connected to the same guy on their phones and   so you could set the dye in the middle of the table and  use it.
