Welcome to Spite Castle
What's a little SPITE between friends?
The spooky brain-child of Michael Rose and produced by Simeck Entertainment, Spite Castle is all about having fun sabotaging your friends, family and frenemies alike! The game revolves around two currencies: Gold to make yourself stronger and win the game; and Spite to mechanically and emotionally damage the other players.
The game has been a wild success in playtesting, at Youmacon, GameOn Expo, and Super MAGFest! With a manufacturer secured and feedback incorporated, we're ready to go and help ruin some friendships... and have some fun along the way!
This Kickstarter will be the final OOMPH to getting this game in your hands!
Game Objectives
Take the "best" aspects of well known friendship ruining games (Mario Party, Monopoly, etc) and put them into a haunted mansion where you beat up ghosts, steal their lunch money (bounties) and sabotage your friends! The winner at the end with the most gold wins the game!
Defeating ghosts earns bounties, and the way to beat ghosts is with the oldest form of war known to man or ghost: rock, paper, scissors!
When all the specters on the board have been defeated, the final specter The Duke of Spite will appear on the board. Once the Duke is defeated, the game ends, and the player with the most gold wins.
Being Spiteful as a Mechanic
Just to keep things interesting and as a delightful way to keep everyone in the game, there is an alternate currency: SPITE.
As players do worse in the game, they will gain Spite. Gaining spite allows the player to ruin other's players gaming sessions in a variety of ways. Getting enough Spite allows players to summon the Duchess of Spite, ruin other player's items, steal their gold, straight up assassinate them, or otherwise being a table gremlin.
This comeback mechanic allows players who are behind to make powerful moves to get back in the game. Combined with gameplay that naturally snowballs in favor of the winning player, this creates chaotic gameplay where the winner is never assured, but strategy still plays a part.
Residents of the Castle
As one would expect, a haunted mansion populated by spiteful ghosts of all walks of life is not a pleasant place. The Duke and Duchess of Spite were not exactly the kindest of nobility. Everybody in that castle was having a bad time. Unsurprisingly, death has not improved their dispositions.
There are 20 available specters for you to fight in Spite Castle including the drowned Housekeeper, the diseased Plague Doctor, the trampled Cobbler, and the adorable Pet Alligator. Each playthrough uses a randomized assortment of specters to fight, adding variety for each game session!
Special Characters
Not all the residents of the Castle are hostile to you. Some ghosts can be met randomly as encounters on empty spaces. There are six Special Characters, each of which has a different powerful effect to change the state of the game. The Venomous Assassin can be sent against your opponents to kill them, and The Mad Alchemist transmutes your inventory. There is also a chance you meet The Bastard of Spite, a powerful wandering specter that can be defeated for a large bounty.
Playable Characters
It's not just the residents of the castle that are spiteful, but the players characters too! Play as legendary adventurers like Karen, The Manager-Seeking or Harold, Eternal Assistant Manager! Will Serenity, The Groomless be the champion to defeat The Duke?
Simeck - Who We Are
Simeck Entertainment is an artist collective company that is anti-AI, anti-crunch, and pro-people with everything we do. Ironically starting out of SPITE of the way artists in the industry are often treated, we’re excited to build games that spark joy, laughter, connection, and maybe a little friendly spite at the game table.
Simeck aims to be more than just entertainment — it’s about having a solid and creative place to work where integrity is both the start and end of every decision we make.
