Every day seems to bring a fresh headline that would have sounded like satire a few years ago. Tariff! is our attempt to make sense of the nonsense: a quickfire card game inspired by the absurdity behind the headlines.

Build your fortune, sabotage your rivals, exploit every advantage, and try to survive an increasingly unstable economy. 

Because if we're all going down together, we might as well have some fun with it.

How to play

Our dream game, Best Frenemies, was all ready to launch on Kickstarter but tariffs made manufacturing impossible without doubling the price for our backers. So we decided to lean into the chaos to create something equally fun and just as pretty that can be made and released right now regardless of tariffs.

We’re working closely with our partners to deliver this game on time.  The game is already done, so we can get going as soon as we’re funded but here’s our super cautious plan (you might get the game sooner).

Shipping

Quick disclaimer: Please note that these shipping rates are estimates and they are subject to change. You will be charged the correct amount just before your game is shipped. These estimates include duties and are based on the size and weight of unlocking all stretch goals (in rewards, you'll find a estimated shipping range which shows the lower rates that may be available if we don't unlock all the goals). 

What about tariffs?
Non-US backers will not pay any US tariffs (but will need to pay the duties set by their own country). 

Backers based in the States will be subject to US tariffs. Right now, we can't tell you how much these will be as they're always changing and they'll only be applied on the day your game arrives in the USA. But we have priced this game as low as possible to reduce the sting. We recommend you check out the US tariffs on China before backing the game to understand how your shipping fees might be effected. 

Meet the team

The year is 2020. Nothing of note is happening and everything is totally fine. But then something happens that will SHOCK the world; two Canadians and an Englishman get together to found a new games studio focused on beautifully crafted games that bring people together—and occasionally drive them apart in a fit of glorious betrayal.

Mike is an illustrator and designer based in Toronto, with work published in places like the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. At Best Frenemies, he leads art direction and design. When he’s not drawing or debating the kerning on a rulebook, he’s probably off-grid somewhere in the woods camping, fishing, and pretending he doesn't have emails.

Steve is a creative director from Toronto who’s worked with top agencies like Wieden+Kennedy and brands like Liquid Death. At Best Frenemies, he brings big ideas, bold strategy, and a deep commitment to maximum chaos. Off the clock, he’s either designing games, riding his beloved bike Shelley, or loudly lamenting the eternal heartbreak that is the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jim is a writer living in London who has spent many years in the UK’s biggest ad agencies, writing for the likes of Samsung, Mercedes, and Adidas. Every word you read from Best Frenemies has probably come from or gone through him (including these! Hi mum!). If he’s not typing, he’s probably off climbing rocks somewhere in Europe like an insane person.
