– description du concepteur

Présentation de la campagne

Introduction

Welcome to The Blame Game: a humor-driven, lighthearted tabletop game about everyday mishaps, absurd excuses, and the universal human tradition of blaming everything except ourselves. You can play with anyone who enjoys laughing at the absurdity of everyday life, chaotic moments, and scapegoats (or literal goats)!

Whether you’re competitive, casual, or just here for the jokes, The Blame Game is designed to be instantly relatable and endlessly replayable.

If you’ve ever blamed anything on traffic, weather, your phone, your horoscope, your childhood piano teacher, or the neighbor’s dog: congratulations! You already understand the game.

Blame everything/everyone except yourself.

Here are 5 few samples of the 52 excuses in The Blame Game's deck:

Collect scapegoats to win, and you'll be just like the game's mascot: the GOAT!

What to expect

  • Quick gameplay (~35 minutes each game)
  • Easy to learn; simple rules and game mechanics
  • Chaos (goats multiply, excuses stack, mishaps escalate)
  • Accessibility (great for families, friends, parties, and people who don’t want to read a rulebook the size of a novella)

First Edition will include:

  • 1 full‑color game board
  • 52 excuse cards
  • 40 Scapegoat tiles
  • 6 player pawns
  • 2 dice
  • Rule sheet
  • Retail‑quality components and box manufactured by a professional board game printer

All artwork shown is representative of the First Edition design.

Available prototype

Because this is my first board game, and I want people to have the chance to try it out, I've made a playable prototype available for only $5. This includes a printable version of the game board, deck, Scapegoat tiles, and instructions. You can back me at Tier 1 from anywhere in the world and receive a downloadable version of the file.

I'm such a "bleating" heart!

How to Play

OBJECTIVE/WIN CONDITIONS

The object of the game is to collect the most Scapegoat tiles (Scapegoats).
When the pool of tiles OR the card deck is exhausted – whichever comes first – the player with most Scapegoats wins.

TURN STRUCTURE AND SPACE TYPES

•Roll both dice
•Move pawn
•Follow space instructions (PURPLE spaces only)
•Exchange card in hand for scapegoat (if applicable)
•Place exchanged card in “discard” pile next to the main deck (if applicable)
•Draw new card (if applicable)

PURPLE board spaces have instructions that must be followed should a player land on that space.

RED, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE spaces are category spaces. Players exchange matching cards in their hands for scapegoats when they land on these spaces.

It's that simple!

EXAMPLES

Why "The Blame Game"? Why Goats?

Meet the goat mascots here!

I thought it would be fun to create a game called The Blame Game, which is grounded in a familiar term, and to collect physical scapegoat tiles to win the game. As a child, I enjoyed adventure type board games like Life and Candy Land, so I designed the board to have that same meandering feel, as if you’re hiking a mountain and ascending a series of switchbacks. It made sense to add a goat theme to the background, and I love the game's various unofficial mascots. I also enjoy games with simple rules, quick pacing, and unexpected humor. I incorporated all 3 of these attributes into The Blame Game.

If this project succeeds, great. If it doesn’t, I’ll pick an appropriate Scapegoat. But I think this game deserves a shot, and I’m giving it one.

This will be me if this quest fails. I'll feel like Don QuiGoaty de la Mancha!

FAQ

Q: Do I need experience with board games to play?

A: Nope! The Blame Game is designed for everyone ages 8+.

Q: Will there be future editions?

A: Possibly. This First Edition will be the initial run.

Q: Will the figurines be hand‑painted?

A: No. They’ll likely be resin cast figurines in a single color, produced in a limited run, and available only to Tier 3 backers.

Q: Do I need to live in a specific location to become a backer?

A: No! Anyone can back Tier 1 and download the Print‑and‑Play version for $5 USD. Physical copies (Tiers 2 and 3) require a US or Canada shipping address due to logistical limitations.

AI Usage

Notes on AI intervention in this project

AI was used to create the following assets in this project:

  • Board backdrop concept art was drawn and revised by generative AI image model Nano Banana 2 Lite.
  • Board template (i.e. the layout and outline of the spaces) was drawn by generative AI image model GPT Image 2 Medium.
  • Concept art for the game's box, card deck, game spaces, "Scapegoat" tile concept art, and the "GOAT" mascot were drawn by generative AI image model Muse by Meta.
  • Promotional video. Clips for the introductory video promoting "The Blame Game" were animated by generative AI video models Happy Horse and PixVerse 6. *DISCLOSURE: The digital avatar in the video is AI generated (face and voice) and is not based on any real person. It does NOT represent the real face or voice of Nat Astor.

NightCafe was the platform used to generate AI images and video clips.

AI was NOT used to:

  • Conceptualize the game. “The Blame Game” — including its mechanics, name, tagline, scapegoat theme, mascots, art direction, and other game components — was thought up and created entirely by Nat Astor.
  • Write or design gameplay mechanics or instructions.
  • Perform photo edits or concept art revisions. All edits were done manually by Nat Astor using Photopea and Microsoft Publisher.
  • Write prompts for video/image generation. All prompts were written and refined by Nat Astor.
  • Produce the Print‑and‑Play file, which was designed and assembled manually by Nat Astor using Microsoft Publisher.
  • Produce the final promotional video, which was edited by Nat Astor using Clipchamp. Materials used in the video are genuine representations of the game's concept art (mascot, box, board, Scapegoat tiles, and sample cards).

AI will not be used to generate or print final game components. Upon securing funding, Nat will seek out a professional game manufacturer to produce the physical first edition of the game.

All AI generated assets were curated, selected, and approved by Nat Astor to ensure consistency with the game’s tone and design.

Regardless of AI usage, Nat is the creator of all game and video content, and all intellectual property contained therein belongs to Nat.
