The World Remembers Dying. It Just Doesn’t Agree on How It Survived.

Four Ages built the world you're standing in. Dwarven and elven gods raised its first mountains and forests. Humanity and a dozen other peoples arrived to fill it. Archmages bent it to arcane will until the Weave itself broke apart in a war fought over who deserved to rule it. Gnomes and Cogborn dragged it kicking into an age of engines, firearms, and machines that learned to ask why they existed.

And then something came down out of the sky that had no interest in any of that.

It didn't conquer. It didn't rule. It came to end the world the way it had ended others, and the only reason it didn't is that seven strangers stood in its way and won — the only way anyone's certain of: it died, and its death broke the sky along with it.

That was just over two hundred years ago. Crystalline shards from its shattered body still turn up in ruins and riverbeds, warping the magic around them. Priests still pray to fifteen gods, though nobody's fully sure which ones saw the calamity coming and which ones simply survived it. Whole societies still flinch at the sight of a spellcaster.

This is the Fifth Age — the Age of Restoration — and the world is still deciding what it's being restored into. That's where you come in.

A Game Built to Get Out of Your Way

The Continuum System is a percentile-based set of rules built from the ground up around one core philosophy: your character's raw ability should mean something the moment you sit down, not three sessions later.

No Hidden Math: Roll a pair of percentile dice (d100) against your skill’s trained percentage. Read your intent, know your exact odds, commit to the roll. No waiting for Level 5 to feel competent at what your character was built to do.

Classless Progression: Nobody hands you a template and tells you what you're allowed to become. You choose an Ancestry—Dwarf, Elf, Cogborn, Dragonkin, and seven more, each with real history and trade-offs, not a reskinned stat block.

Meaningful Backgrounds: Your background answers one honest question: Before all this, who were you, and what did that life teach you? A former Soldier who leans into martial training becomes a battlefield anchor; a former Soldier who pours everything into Persuasion and Deception becomes a grizzled negotiator. Same start. Nothing alike five levels later.

Tactical Depth: Declare It Before You Roll

Combat rewards an intentional plan, not just a bloated stat block. Every clash is an opposed roll—your attack against their defense, with the margin of success adding direct weight to the hit.

Margin-Based Damage: Land a blow by a wide enough margin, and you roll extra damage dice on the spot.

Called Shots with Real Stakes: Declare a called shot before you swing to disarm, trip, or hamstring an opponent. It’s a genuine gamble, not a free upgrade—if you fail the called shot threshold, you still deal normal damage.

High-Impact Tactical Play: From Two-Weapon Fighting and raised shields to firing a pistol point-blank as an enemy blade descends, every choice has a declared cost and payoff before dice hit the table. No retrofitting effects after the roll.

Magic Has Weight

Arcane casters draw on the raw Weave; Divine casters channel the favor of fifteen distinct deities (or appeal to the broader pantheon).

In The Continuum, a spell isn't an arbitrary slot you fill and forget—it is a vital resource you actively spend.

Overcharging & Empowerment: Pour extra energy into a single casting to make it strike harder, last longer, or reach further—right up to the brink of burning through your reserve when the party needs it most.

True Specialization: Casters who specialize become devastating powerhouses within their chosen school, but accept real, tangible weaknesses everywhere else.

Same Rules, Different Sky

Everything in this book—the percentile engine, the contested math, the modular skills, and the resource-driven magic—is built to travel.

Master it here in the fantasy realm of Aethelrune, and you have mastered the core engine of The Continuum. Future expansions and genres will run on this exact same chassis; you’ll already know how to play, leaving only the new world's flavor to discover.

What We Are Funding

This campaign funds the production, physical proofing, and distribution of:
