The Crypto Plug — The Board Game That Teaches Money

The Beginning

We created The Crypto Plug  witch we have put in over 876 hours on the computer alone with who knows how many years  in person and on the phone and gameplay testing that this took, because financial education should not feel boring, confusing, or out of reach. After more than two years developing the game, we built a competitive game-night experience that turns budgeting, investing, credit, business ownership, taxes, crypto risk, and real-world decision-making into something players can enjoy together.

HOW TO PLAY THE CRYPTO PLUG

1. START IN STARTER
Choose your pawn, begin with $2,500, and build your first crypto portfolio. Answer knowledge cards, trade crypto, stake assets, explore NFTs, and survive early risks.

2. BUILD IN THE SUBURBS
Buy businesses like Mobile Detail, Barbershop, Box Truck, Food Truck, Landscaping, and Marketplace Resale. Every business generates recurring income when you pass Payday.

To advance, build at least $4,000 in net worth, own a business, and hold 2 different crypto assets.

3. PROTECT YOUR WEALTH IN MANSIONS
Now the game gets tougher. Build your credit, form an LLC, deal with taxes, regulators, Rug Pulls, Crypto Winter, and Whale Manipulation.

To move forward, you’ll need strong credit, multiple businesses, asset protection, and a Trapology clue.

4. REACH THE PENTHOUSE
Complete your portfolio by collecting 3 different crypto assets and the required Crypto Plug + Trapology clue cards.

5. UNLOCK THE COLD VAULT
Reach the Cold Vault and scan the included QR code to open the digital vault.

Use the clues collected during gameplay to solve the secret 4-digit code.

The Crypto Assets

The path to the Cold Vault isn’t unlocked with money alone.

Throughout the game, players must earn special Trapology Clue Cards. Each card contains part of a hidden code used in the final challenge.

The Trapology Connection

THE TRAPOLOGY CONNECTION

Trapology cards create an additional hidden puzzle layer.

Players collect clue cards throughout the game.

Some reveal:

• Numbers
• Symbols
• Sequence information
• Ordering clues
• Hidden instructions

The clues combine with Crypto Plug cards to reveal the code needed to unlock the Cold Vault.

Each game can use a different combination, making the final challenge replayable.

Trapology cards may reveal:

• A hidden number
• A symbol
• A sequence clue
• A color
• An ordering instruction

Players keep these clue cards secret until they qualify for the final stage.

To attempt the Cold Vault, a player must collect the required Trapology clues along with the matching Crypto Plug clue cards.

The clues combine to reveal a secret 4-digit code.

THE CODE CHANGES

Each game can use a different code, so players can’t simply memorize the answer from a previous playthrough.

One game might reveal:

Another game could reveal:

8 • 2 • 4 • 6

The Trapology system adds a hidden-puzzle layer to the game, so winning requires more than simply becoming the richest player.

You have to build wealth, collect the right information, solve the clues, and crack the Vault.

• The QR code is the bridge between the physical board game and the Cold Vault digital finale.

When a player reaches the end of the game, they must prove they have built the right portfolio, collected the required Trapology and Crypto Plug clue cards, and solved the secret 4-digit code. The QR code gives them access to the digital Cold Vault, where they enter that code and find out whether they actually unlocked the game’s final challenge.

WHY THE QR CODE MATTERS

The QR code brings the final stage of The Crypto Plug to life.

After collecting the required crypto assets and secret clue cards, players scan the QR code to open the Cold Vault digital interface. They then use the clues gathered throughout the game to determine the hidden 4-digit code.

Enter the wrong code, and the Vault stays locked.

Enter the correct code, and the Vault opens.

This creates a physical-and-digital ending where players don’t win just by having the most money. They have to build wealth, collect information, solve the puzzle, and unlock the Cold Vault.

ABOUT THE TEAM

We’re two Northern California creators building tabletop experiences around strategy, risk, competition, and the excitement of chasing the next big win. Based in Lakeport and Ukiah, we bring a hands-on, independent-builder mindset to every part of the process—from shaping the game’s world and mechanics to creating an experience people will want to bring back to the table. 

Andrew Pick  is an entrepreneur and product creator with experience developing tabletop-game concepts, practical consumer products, construction and home-improvement projects, and digital marketing ideas. He combines creative game design with a strong focus on turning early concepts into real, usable products.

Brenton Smith brings a competitive, local-racing background to the project. Public racing records identify a Brenton Smith from Ukiah as a competitor at Ukiah Speedway and Redwood Acres Raceway, giving the team another perspective rooted in competition, decision-making under pressure, and the thrill of the game.

Q: Do I need to know anything about crypto to play?

A: No. The game teaches every concept as you play.

Q: Is real cryptocurrency involved?

A: No. All in-game assets are game pieces. The optional cold-wallet accessory is real hardware, but no real crypto is required.

Q: What's the Trapology crossover?

A: A hidden puzzle built into the endgame that connects to our Trapology project.

Q: What if the cold-wallet hardware is delayed?

A: It ships separately from the base game. Your board game is never held hostage by the hardware timeline.
