"Your dream has vanished, the opportunity lost, but the artifact is about to change everything. A journey overflowing with blessings and horror awaits you."
The Find is a chain-journaling multiplayer experience inspired by films like Hellraiser and Jumanji, where the arrival of a mysterious object will drastically change the lives of the protagonists. Every step is taken in the shadow of impending doom, yet driven by hope, curiosity, or obsession.
Chain-Journaling Multiplayer Experience
- With Journaling Game we refer to a genre of games where writing a Diary is at the core of the experience. In our case, players will read prompts that tell them what happens to their character, similar to gamebooks.
However, unlike those in gamebooks, these prompts are open-ended, and it's up to the player to narrate what happens, recording it in the diary.
Thousand Year Old Vampire by Tim Hutchings is one of the best games in this genre and the inspiration behind creating our own.
-
Chain-Journaling because this genre is usually played solo, "The Find" aims to do something more: once the game is over, the diary will be passed on to a friend who will play the sequel to your story and pass it on in turn.
This idea comes from "The Machine" and epistolary games like "Dead Letters Society”.
- The game is multiplayer because it requires collaboration among players. By incorporating elements written by your friends, you'll make the story more interesting and cohesive (plus, everyone loves being mentioned). However, solo play is still possible.
- Experience because the game is just a small part of The Find, the best part comes after! You play to discover what happens, but you write to share the experience.
Game’s Overview
Each player takes on the role of an owner of the Find and writes a Diary of their experience.
To play you only need a notepad or physical diary and a deck of poker cards, pens and sheets of paper.
Each turn you’ll draw a card, read a prompt and write an entry in the Diary.
Cards are the game’s engine: each draw determines the protagonist's future by telling you which prompt to read.
Cards’ Suits indicate what tone to use while developing prompts and serve as special resources giving access to limited actions.
[♣] Clubs allow players to ask questions to those who played before them or open envelopes containing hidden information.
[♥] Hearts save the protagonists from themself and their obsessions, allowing them to get rid of the cursed object before it’s too late for them.
[♦] Diamonds allow the protagonists to control the artifact and use it to reach their goals.
[♠] Spades activate the artifact in unsettling and dramatic ways, they also serve as a timer and trigger the ending.
The Find Passing Hands: when the protagonist reaches the end of their story, the Diary and the object find a new owner.
An individual player’s game ends if the main character wins over his obsession by disposing of the cursed object, dies, disappears or loses the artifact.
Drawing the third Spades card ends the game, forcing one of the previous conditions to happen.
Once at the end of the chain all players will come together to admire the story that has formed and you’ll share your experiences. Then you’ll narrate a flashback showing the perspective of the creator of the cursed artifact (like creating a prequel to celebrate your story).
The Find is a self-contained game. You will only need a deck of cards and a small notepad.
- Approx 30 pages of really simple rules to create your Find, see it go from character to character and discover all the mysteries of its creation.
- Multiple Finds: the game will feature multiple randomly assigned Find’s booklets.
- At least 4 character booklets: The Archaeologist, The Actor, The Adventurer, The Error…
- Easy to play: the game is driven by prompts and by easy to read rules.
- A physical journal: you will create a real journal resulting from play

Hi, I’m Michele Gelli. As far as I can remember, I was always in love with role-playing games and board games. I started playing with the Red Box of D&D and played every other game I could find.
I always worked in entertainment; in the years i worked as anime/manga publisher, room escape designer and did every possible work that can be done in a publishing house.
In 2006 I founded “Narrattiva”, which quickly became a publisher known for its adventurous and innovative spirit, today, Narrattiva’s catalogue features all major indie designers and at least a game from each continent.
Hi, I'm Gioele Visani. I’ve been into roleplay for 20 years, starting with online video games before exploring classic RPGs.
A decade ago, PBTA games sparked my love for indie RPGs, leading me to design games for both fun and education. What I love most is sharing a creative process with friends, so I was eager to adapt a traditionally solo genre into a collaborative experience.
I’m excited to share this game with you, it being my first public release and all. I hope you'll enjoy it playing it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
