The Iron Colony: Modular Sci-Fi Battlefield

Build the battlefield your way.
Tabletop strategy games are at their best when the battlefield feels alive. Elevation, choke points, walkways, and platforms can completely change how a match unfolds — but most terrain systems are either fixed, fragile, or difficult to store.
We wanted something different.
A battlefield that builds quickly, locks together securely, and can evolve with every game.
So we created a modular industrial / sci-fi terrain system built around durable 6"x6" tiles that clip together using a simple proprietary connector system.
The result is a solid, customizable tabletop surface that can grow from a small skirmish board to a sprawling industrial complex.
The System
At the core of the system are 6 inch by 6 inch modular floor tiles designed to connect seamlessly on all sides. We also have ramps, riser platforms and bridges to create a multi-level battlefield.
Using our simple clip system, tiles snap together to form a rigid play surface that stays aligned during gameplay while still allowing fast setup and teardown.
No magnets.
No complicated locking mechanisms.
Just clean, fast connections that work every time.
The tiles feature industrial sci-fi paneling designed to look at home in starports, factories, research stations, and orbital platforms.
Designed for Popular Tabletop Games
The 6" grid format was chosen because it scales easily to many common tabletop board sizes.
Whether you're playing a skirmish game, tactical battle game, or narrative sci-fi scenario, you can build a board to match your needs.
The tiles work particularly well for games that use rectangular boards that can be built from 6" increments, and we’re also designing border pieces that allow compatibility with several popular board sizes that fall between those increments.
This lets you create a clean, finished board edge regardless of the game system you’re using.

Multi-Level Battlefields
Flat boards are only the beginning.
We’re designing risers and transition pieces that allow players to build multi-level terrain environments.
Create:
• elevated platforms
• catwalks and industrial decks
• raised firing positions
• layered battlefields
Vertical terrain dramatically changes gameplay and adds cinematic moments to every match.
Two Ways to Build Your Battlefield
We want this system to be accessible to both 3D printing enthusiasts and players who prefer ready-to-use terrain.
Physical Terrain Sets
Professionally produced modular tiles ready to use on your table.
Perfect for players who want a durable, consistent battlefield straight out of the box.
3D Printable Files
Backers will also be able to purchase high-quality STL files to print their own terrain at home.
This allows players to:
• expand their boards indefinitely
• customize colors and materials
• print replacement parts anytime
Optional Decal System
To bring even more life to the tiles, we’re partnering with a third-party decal manufacturer to produce a set of industrial markings and sci-fi surface graphics.
These decals will allow you to add:
• warning stripes
• maintenance panels
• landing markers
• numbering systems
• industrial signage
The decals are completely optional, letting you customize the visual style of your board as much or as little as you like.
Why We Made This
We love tabletop games that use dynamic battlefields. But we kept running into the same problems:
• terrain that shifts during gameplay
• boards that take too long to build
• systems that can’t scale easily
We wanted something modular, expandable, and rock-solid once assembled.
This system was designed to solve those problems while still looking great on the table.
What Comes Next
With your support, we plan to expand the system with additional pieces such as:
• new tile patterns
• additional elevation systems
• terrain features and structures
• expansion tile packs
Our goal is to create a long-term modular terrain ecosystem that keeps growing with the community.
Join the Project
If you love tactical tabletop games, modular terrain, and cinematic battlefields, we hope you’ll help bring this system to life.
Back the campaign and start building your own industrial battlefield.
