The Isofarian Guard & the Veilward expansion are story-driven games designed for 1-2 players.

The Isofarian Guard Introduction:
Welcome to Isofar, a wild land severe in its beauty. The Isofarian people take great pride in their ability to flourish among the hostile wildlife and cruel elements of their mountainous home. As a member of the Isofarian guard, life is never dull. You try to keep the peace among your fellow Isofarians, as well as deal with constant threats from the aggressive Falmund Empire to the south.

But now, the old patterns are shifting. New forces are at work that will challenge the very underpinnings of reality. You will guide eight different Isofarian Guards throughout 5 interweaving campaigns as they deal with a power that threatens not only Isofar, but the entire world.

A Compass Chip means you’ve found an open road. Place a purple cube on the region's event deck. Once three cubes are on the deck you’ll start a field event. There are four different regions and 160 events to discover!

A Skull Chip means you’ve found an enemy in the wild!

The battle phase then begins against enemies found at that location. There are three unique enemy encounters at each node.

Once in battle, you’ll utilize the bag building system. Draw chips from each of the Guards’ bags and activate various abilities while balancing your resources to defeat the enemies.

In each campaign you’ll control two Guards, and the story is written from their perspective. When playing co-op, you’ll frequently add helpful chips to each other’s chip bags as there’s plenty of synergy and decision making between players.

After the Guards have completed their turns the enemies begin their turns. Each enemy has an AI deck of eight cards. When an enemy AI card is drawn, abilities are performed from top to bottom and abilities are activated as long as the enemy has enough action points to perform them. Some enemies can even add negative chips to your Guards’ bags which trigger effects when they are drawn!

When enemies are defeated, you’ll obtain helpful materials which you can use to craft powerful new equipment. You’ll also obtain ‘Lux Essence’ which acts as a communal pool of experience for the Guards to become stronger. You’ll trade this in to unlock and add new chips to the Guards’ chip bags as well as new abilities to use in battle! Each Guard has a skill tree with unique unlockable upgrades. Since each Guard can only equip six ability cards at a time, you’ll need to customize them to suit your playstyle.

When you’d like to progress the story you’ll move the Guards to a narrative chip to begin the narrative phase. You'll either read the narrative from the campaign book, or listen to the scene with Forteller!

The Isofarian Guard has over 25+ hours of audio narration with 10+ hours of orchestral music composed for each scene so the sound ebbs and flows with what’s happening in the story! Additionally, there's background music you can play while exploring, battle music for encounters, and every boss in the game has their own unique theme to play during those epic battles!

When we began creating the vast world of Telios we wanted to make it come alive with music. Isofar, one of the countries in Telios is in the far northeastern area of the continent. There's a vast snowy mountainous area in the north and sweeping plains in the south. The music and sound of the people there had to have a distinct sound and feel.

So, we reached out to composer Satta Rojanagatanyoo to compose an orchestral score that would accompany the immersive voice acting that players would experience with Forteller!

Take a listen to the main theme of The Isofarian Guard featuring vocalist Julie Elven who has sung on games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Horizon Zero Dawn and more!

When you’re not battling against enemies in the wild, you’ll have a multitude of other content to discover during your adventures across Isofar.

Visit the blacksmiths and marketplaces at each city to craft new equipment and purchase new items to survive on the road. Rest at the various Inns and help the inhabitants of Isofar by completing Bounty Quests and Puzzle Quests posted there.  Completing these quests will raise your ‘Prestige’ level at each city. Raising prestige grants you various benefits at each city. These can include being able to stay at the Inn for a lower price or being able to craft equipment with less materials! If you manage to raise a city’s prestige to the max level you’ll be rewarded with a unique reward too!

Puzzle Quests are posted at each Inn. Completing Puzzle Quests raises the Prestige level with the city. These quests use grid-based maps listed in the new City Index Book, and you’ll slide various chips on each grid to solve various objectives.

Early in the story you’ll arrive at Fort Istra, which will be the home base for the Guards. You can rebuild this fort to unlock new game systems and mechanics which will aid you in your quest! Each time a building is built and upgraded you’ll place the building's puzzle piece in the fort’s map.

In The Isofarian Guard you can play as long as you’d like for each session. When you’re done, you’ll use the Game Trayz system to simply snap the lid over the components, holding them in place until you decide to play again.

Setup and teardown only takes 10 minutes!

Veilward - What's new in the expansion?

Veilward Introduction:

Veilward is the expansion to The Isofarian Guard. Experience the epic storytelling and strategic gameplay that made The Isofarian Guard unforgettable. A cast of new characters, new lands, and fresh mechanics are waiting to be discovered. Venture beyond Isofar's borders and explore the mystery of the Veil, all brought to life through immersive audio narration by Forteller.

Veilward utilizes bag building mechanics seen in the base game while introducing a new deck-building system alongside a unique grid-based card mechanic where you'll strategically shift cards in battle to trigger powerful effects.

In Veilward, you'll explore more of Telios as the Guards explore not only Isofar, but also the country of Falmund.

If you know how to play The Isofarian Guard, you’ll have no problem diving into the expansion – Veilward!

Veilward uses most of the core rules from the base game, but adds new mechanics around exploration, and a completely new battle phase!

Early in the story of Veilward, Rei and Luka transform into ‘Veilwardens’, incredible entities capable of traversing between the physical and spirit worlds. This ‘traversing between worlds’ is what introduces new mechanics into the expansion.

Let’s start with how this affects exploring in Veilward.

While moving between nodes on the main map of Isofar and Falmund, Rei and Luka can ‘slip into the Veil’. When a player decides to move across the map in this way, you’ll move the miniature (or bust chips) of Rei and Luka from node to node without drawing a chip from the event bag.

Typically, you would be drawing a chip from the event bag each time you land on a yellow node on the map. The chip drawn would then tell you whether you would be battling against an enemy or possibly coming across an ‘open road’ which gets you closer to triggering a field event.

Since Rei and Luka are able to go into the Veil, they are able to skip this part of the exploration phase – meaning you won’t be drawing from the event bag at all. Moving in this way allows you to move across Isofar and Falmund very quickly!

However, when you choose to move in this way ‘something’ in the Veil becomes aware of Rei and Luka, and you’ll have to increase a new ‘tension meter’ one space for each yellow node that is moved through on the map!

Once you pass certain thresholds on this meter, a new chip is added to the event bag. When this new chip is drawn during the exploration phase that ‘something’ will enter the physical world and begin to hunt down Rei and Luka – creating a high tense situation for the player!

The higher the tension meter goes, the stronger this creature becomes.

It’s important to know that moving this way is completely optional for players, as you can still move from node to node the standard way. However, maybe there’s sometimes a good reason to go into the Veil. You’ll have to explore and find out!

Next, let’s talk about how battle is different in Veilward!

In Veilward, you’ll have a new battle phase to utilize called the ‘Veil Battle Phase’. In this new phase the expansion introduces a new deck building mechanic where you’ll now draw cards from a unique deck for both Rei and Luka.

Battles in Veilward work the same way as the base game during the normal battle phase. Just like in The Isofarian Guard, you’ll draw chips from each of the Guards’ chip bags and activate their Guard Ability Cards or activate their powerful Stonebound Ability Cards to defeat enemies.

At the end of each round, you’ll now have the choice to slip into the Veil which is the new ‘Veil Battle Phase’. When this happens, you’ll flip the Guard Bust Cards of Rei and Luka over, revealing their transformed state. In this new form, the attack and defense of both characters is increased. You’ll also discard all their ability cards from their ability dashboards.

You’ll then draw cards from their Veil Ability Card decks and begin placing new Veil Ability Cards on their dashboards. These cards can ‘Link’ together utilizing element symbols on the sides of the cards to trigger power effects!

The new Veil Battle Phase introduces many new mechanics and components, and we’ll be covering those differences in some gameplay videos throughout the campaign. Be on the lookout for those in our updates and the gameplay section of the campaign!

We’re excited to partner with Forteller Games again to provide an incredibly immersive experience while playing Veilward!
You can expect 10+ hours of audio narration with hours of orchestral music composed to each scene so the sound ebbs and flows with what’s happening in the story!

Sarah Smithton will be voicing for Rei and Alexander Ross will be voicing for Luka.

You can also expect the same beautiful orchestral music as we had in The Isofarian Guard. The soundtrack will be composed by Satta Rojanagatanyoo.

Julie Elven has partnered with us again to sing for the main theme of Veilward as well as some other tracks. Julie also sung on the main theme of The Isofarian Guard and is known for her work on Horizon Zero Dawn, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and many other projects. Here's a special video featuring Julie singing the main theme of Veilward.

Below, you’ll find the first 5 audio narrated tracks from Veilward. These 5 tracks acts as the prologue to the expansion. Feel free to listen as these tracks do not contain spoilers from The Isofarian Guard but returning players mat recognize some characters!

How to Play - Rulebook and Rulepop

Our team has partnered with Rulepop for the official rules website of The Isofarian Guard.

This incredible site works great on desktop or mobile devices and can be used even if you're offline. It will allow you to find information about the rules quickly and easily and multiple players around the table can access it at the same time. It also contains a living FAQ, new players guide, and a campaign tracker for those that don’t wish to write in the books that come with the game. This means you can track the Guards' skill tree progression, current stats and equipment and more. We’ve also included the indexes used in the game for quick access like the enemy index, blacksmith, and marketplace index.

Once the rules are finalized for the Veilward expansion we will be adding that content to this site as well!

Our team is currently working on updating our tutorial videos for the exploration phase, and battle phase, and you can expect a new video series of tutorial videos for the Veilward expansion next year when games are delivered!
