My family and I all love movies... and games!

Every year at our Oscars-themed party we play movie trivia together.

But the problem with movie trivia is that it's always the same few movie buffs who dominate, barely giving anyone else a chance...

So we created the solution: The Movie Game.

Unlike movie trivia, there's no single correct answer. In any round, each combination of 3 random movie elements could lead to dozens of different answers.

This creates an addictive little puzzle in which each player's answer will constantly surprise you. In any given round, "Titanic", "Madagascar", or even "Final Destination" might all simultaneously be the highest-scoring answer!

Traditionally, movie trivia games are quite binary—you've either seen it and know the answer or you haven't and must effectively sit out the round. In The Movie Game, no player is limited by what they have or haven't seen because two wildly different taste profiles can have valid answers for the exact same combination of cards.

Now whenever we feel like playing a movie game, this is our go-to!

Not only have we ran dozens of playtests across multiple groups with overwhelmingly positive feedback, but...

The Movie Game is currently available to playtest here on Steam via TableTop Simulator and has already gained over 100 subscribers in its first week!

PLAYER INFO

Recommended Age — 8+
Number of Players — 1-12+
Game Length — ~25min.

HOW TO PLAY

Each round, reveal three random cards.
These include Genres, Characters & Creatures, Settings, Props & Objects, Scenes & Moments, Cast & Crew, Special Powers, and Wildcards!

Each player writes down one movie that features or directly relates to up to three of the cards.

+ You cannot repeat any answer from a previous round.
+ If your answer is part of a series of movies, you must specify which one.
+ Your answer must be a movie (not a TV series).

Then reveal, discuss, debate, and score your answers.
You receive 1 point for each successful match!
(e.g. if you thought of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” for the example above, you would have earned the full 3 points!)

Be prepared for some answers to feel like a stretch.
It’s up to you to defend them! Your group decides where to draw the line.

Scoring Guide

Valid Answer — Spider-Man scores 1 point for Kissing in the Rain because Spider-Man and MJ kiss in the rain.
Debatable Answer — Finding Nemo might score 1 point for Contains Nudity because technically the fish are naked.
Invalid Answer — Barbie does not score 1 point for Board Game / Video Game just because you’re pretty sure Barbie video games exist.

The connections you draw between the movie title and the cards should apply to the movie itself, not spin-offs, merchandise, marketing, or unrelated trivia.

After 7 rounds, the player with the highest total score wins!
